What Causes Discomfort In The Upper Left Abdominal Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: I have some discomfort in my upper left abdomen and it isnt there constantly. It feels more like a soreness sometimes. I did go to the ER the other day as I have had this issue for the past month. They did a lot of blood test and urine test, then a chest X-ray and everything looked good. Anyways they said it must be muscular. I also occasional have small amounts of what looks like mucus in my stool not a slimy mucus but like a foamy type mucus (sorry not sure how to really explain it). About 2 years ago I had a HIDA scan and everything was normal and I also had a colonoscopy a month or so before that test. Now I have taken a ton of antibiotics in the past years for a prostate issue and noticed I have had gut issues since and even got c diff a little over 2 year ago from a antibiotic. I have always seem to have a tightness in my stomach for the past 5 years and feel bloated. I also have a hiatus hernia and often wonder if that is the issue but I believe i have more going on in my gut from the years of frequent antibiotics use and I did have to use a antibiotic for a sinus infection in the month of November for like 10 days but had almost been 9 months before that since I had to use a antibiotic.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to.Colonic problem or Musculoskeletal pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it is evident that you are taking Antibiotics regularly. It may affect the colon leading to colitis.
Spleen,Junction of transverse and descending colon, left kidney are present in left upper part of abdomen. As investigations ruled out kidney and splenic lesions , colonic problem has to be considered.
I prescribe Pre and Probiotic capsule twice daily after food to my patients with similar complaints.
Hiatus hernia doesn't cause pain in left upper quadrant. But,I add Capsule Rabeprazole and Domperidone before food to my patients.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

I can sometimes feel a tenderness left center middle abdomen or it could be me being hypersensitive to this issue.

Some days seem worse than others like today not much going on but yesterday I felt a soreness in the area. My fear it that is something more serious but I tend to have health anxiety.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to colonic problem .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Colon extends from right lower quadrant of abdomen ,extends upward to the right upper quadrant and then towards the left lower quadrant.
Pain in the middle of the abdomen on left side could be due to colonic problem.
As colonoscopy was normal,it could be mild inflammation or Irritable bowel syndrome now.
Please reduce your anxiety.
Pre and probiotic capsule will help.
Wish you good health

What would make a quick simple pain on touch left center abdomen? Once when touched is is a very slight pain and if you touch it again it doesnt have the same pain or discomfort? Does that sound strange to you?

Brief Answer:
It is called Spasmodic pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It is natural for any hollow organ to have pain in one instance and disappear later.
It could be due to Colon only.
Try with Pre and Probiotic capsule and see the results after 2 weeks.
