I'm worried that it should not be pulmonary embolus. She had her hysterectomy 2 months back and she has been sitting in one position for a long time today(though she did move around in between). Around 6 hours back, when she got up she felt a muscle pull in the same area. She woke up in middle of night complaining of pain and sharp pain on inhalation. Also it is aggravated by any change of position. I have given her one dispirin. Should I give ibuprofen over and above this?

Brief Answer:
most probably muscle spasms. Visit physician to rule out embolism

Detailed Answer:
Dear S, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns about your wife's illness and also appreciate your suspicion about embolism, as it may happen after a surgery when patient remains in lying posture for long periods.

However in my opinion, your wife, most probably has muscle spasms. Because pain is sharp, increases with movements. Morever surgery for uterus was done two months back. Generally embolism can happen during post operative week, when patient is absolutely resting or sleeping or not even moving a bit.

You need to give her little stronger pain killers than aspirin. Also give muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone for few days. Infra red heat is also very helpful in recovery from muscle spasms.

However I would also advise you to get her examined by physician to rule out the possibility of embolism, as it could be a serious problem. (Although chances are less).

I hope mreply wewill help. Please write to us for more information and follow up queries. I wish good health to your wife and whole family. Kindly rate this reply.
