Brief Answer:
spotting need to be investigated

Detailed Answer:
Dear madam,welcome to healthcare magic.
I understand your concern.

In my opinion menopause is said to be reached when there are no periods for one year and any spotting or bleeding after 6 months of no periods need to be investigated.

As you have no periods since a year and your age being 51 you have reached menopause.

So the spotting needs to be investigated as it is considered as postmenopausal bleeding.

You might need to :-
1)Pervaginal examination to see the status of cervix and a pap smear.
If the cervix is unhealthy ,cervix biopsy might also be needed.
2)Diagnostic D&C -It is a simple out patient procedure where in the endometrium is scraped and sent for histopathological examination.
3)Abdominal ultrasound to rule out any abnormalities like fibroids and to see for endometrial thickness.
4)Breast examination.

You might need the above investigations to rule out malignancy of cervix and endometrium or any other abnormality of uterus.

Breast tenderness if seen in both breasts and there is no mass it might be a symptom of menopause. You need not worry about that.

Iam sorry madam my aim is not to make you tense but these are the conditions to be excluded in case of post menopausal spotting or bleeding.

Dont worry madam if any abnormality found total hysterectomy might be the procedure of choice and the results will be good.

Hope this satisfies your query.
