What Causes Delay In Period Along With Negative UPT?

Question: I am 34 and healthy. I did not have sex for a year and a half and then met met my husband in November. We began trying for a baby 2 months ago. my last period was 1/2//2015. all at home tests are negative. my gyno gave me a urine test, negative. This has been the first time since age 12 I have not had a regular period and also been trying to get pregnant. all tests have been urine, do I need a blood test, should I see a specialsist? thanks.

You should know that period may be delayed for 1 to 7 days normally due to mental stress, emotional upset, psychological factor, hormonal disturbance etc.

As you are trying to conceive for last 2 months, I suggest to undergo blood test for beta-hCG to rule out late conception.

However, some other reasons of irregular period like pelvic infection, irregular diet pattern, over weight, Poly Cystic Ovary, thyroid disturbance (Hypothyroid), high prolactin level etc should be ruled out.

Here, I suggest to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormone tests under the guidance of local GYNECOLOGIST. It will help to confirm the diagnosis. Take treatment according to that.

Take healthy balanced diet, control body weight, avoid mental stress by yoga or meditation and maintain genital hygiene properly.

Thank you for your response, however, I read this on Web MD - lol. I have two concerns, could I possibly be pregnant even if all the urine tests are negative and secondly, how concerned should I be about missing two periods for the first time in my life? I went to my gyno and she only gave me a urine test. Could I be pregnant?

1) If all urine tests are NEGATIVE, then possibility of pregnancy is quite LOW. However, blood test beta-hCG is more confirmatory in case of LATE conception.

2) We need to find out other causes (mentioned in earlier text) of missed period and undergo some necessary investigation (ultrasound scan, hormone test) to confirm the diagnosis.
