What Causes Continuous Bleeding After Taking Meprate?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,

My fiancee didnt have her periods for 2 months for which she took meprate. I ll give the exact dates here so that its easy for you to interpret my question

29 July- 2 Aug: My fiancee takes a course of meprate. One tab after breakfast and one after dinner
3Aug-9Aug: She gets her periods. This happened after more than 2 months
9 Aug: the periods stop, which is normal
15Aug-20 Aug: There is continuous bleeding. I checked with healthcaremagic.com and was told that it is normal bleeding due to Meprate. The medicine is trying to regularise the periods.

My question is that when will my fiancee have her periods again?

Brief Answer:
DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Besides pregnancy, delayed period may be due to hormonal imbalance, mental stress, emotional upset, pelvic infection, irregular diet pattern, over weight, Poly Cystic Ovary, thyroid disturbance, high prolactin level etc.

MEPRATE has some side effects like irregular spotting or bleeding, abdominal cramp, headache, weight gain, breast tenderness etc. 2nd time bleeding is mostly due to effect of the medicine.

Here, I suggest to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormone tests under the guidance of local GYNECOLOGIST. It will help to narrow down underlying causes and confirm the diagnosis. Take treatment according to that.

She would take LOW CARBOHYDRATE diet, avoid fatty/ salty food, do regular physical exercise to control or reduce body weight and avoid stress through regular meditation. These will help to regularize her period.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish her good health and take care yourself.

Dr S Patra

Thanks for the response Dr. Patra. However I have a doubt here

"Since the periods have happened right after taking Meprate and some bleeding has happened again after a few days, this cannot be pregnancy. Right? Or is it possible to get pregnant despite having periods"

I shall get the pelvic ultrasound done as suggested. Is there anything else I should be worried about?

Brief Answer:
DO ULTRASOUND SCAN FIRST.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for follow up query.

Pregnancy must be EXCLUDED before proceeding other investigations. At this stage, one ultrasound scan will be worthwhile to confirm the diagnosis.

Generally, women getting REGULAR period CAN'T be pregnant. However, taking Hormonal or Abortion pill FORCEFULLY without knowing the status of pregnancy may lead to this type of irregular bleeding. It should be confirmed first.

Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.

All the best and good luck.

Thanks again Doctor

My fiancee got a Beta HCG Blood Test done. The result was <2.00, which I believe indicates that there is no pregnancy. Right?

Can you suggest a way to induce the periods again. We would like to go for something natural rather than medicines like Meprate

Brief Answer:
NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your response.

Blood beta hCG value less than 2 mIU/ml definitely excludes pregnancy. Stress and hormonal imbalance are the main reason for delayed period.

a) Did she get her period regularly before taking Meprate?
b) Age of period onset and average duration of last few cycles?
c) Any H/O pregnancy or induced abortion in the past?
d) Current height and weight (for BMI)?

Waiting for your reply.

Dr S Patra

Brief Answer:
FOLLOW THE ADVICE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for additional information.

Infrequent taking of I-pill is the main cause of irregular delayed period or bleeding due to hormonal imbalance.

As she got her period on 15th August, then she would expect her next period around 15th of next month. However, some lifestyle changes will be helpful to regularize period.

1) She must take a healthy balanced diet with more fresh fruits and vegetables. LOW CARBOHYDRATE diet is preferable. Avoid sugary/ salty/ junk foods.

2) Do regular physical exercise to control body weight and avoid mental stress completely by regular meditation or yoga.

3) Stop taking I-PILL or emergency pill frequently. Combined hormonal pill is a better option to get regular period and highest protection.

4) Drink plenty of water. Limit caffeine intake. Take Carrot or Aloe Vera juice. Soak fennel seeds in water overnight and drink it in early morning in empty stomach. Raw papaya and ginger are also useful.

Hope, I have answered your query with detailed solution. Kindly, close the discussion and give feedback.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
