Brief Answer:
TMJ dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

From the symptoms you described it looks like your wife has Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. The TM joint is a joint between the mandible and the skull. This joint is located very close to the ear and inflammation of this joint is commonly perceived as ear ache. It is a very common condition and treatment is very simple and can be done at home itself.

1) Do not open your mouth wide.
2) Support your lower jaw while yawning.
3) Avoid side to side movements of the jaw.
4) Avoid hard food, restrict yourself to soft diet which requires minimal chewing.

For the pain, take a pain killer like ibuprofen or paracetamol after checking your dose.

If the pain does not subside in a few days then see a dentist.

Brief Answer:
No need of antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There is no need for antibiotics. The joint will be inflamed but not infected.

There are many causes for TMJ dysfunction. Grinding or clenching the teeth also called bruxism can occur during day or night time, arthritis of the joint, stress, anxiety , depression, malocclusion of teeth, trauma.

It is not related to weather, or allergy or fungus or infection.

She should eat only soft food like rice, dal, idli, dosa, poha, upma. she can take soft fruits like banana, orange, chikku, papaya.

Brief Answer:
see doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome,

If the pain does not subside then please see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis.

Pain from TMJ dysfunction will come down quickly if you follow the precautions that I had mentioned.

You may require some Physiotherapy to relax muscles of mastication (chewing).

Till then do not eat anything hard and restrict to soft diet.
