What Causes Cold, Excessive Cough And Fever In A Child?

Question: Our Son (18 months old) is having cold and excessive cough with occasional fever since last 2 days. We've given him crocin and Tixylix (half spoon, thrice/day). While his fever is under control, his cough has not improved and his nose is also running. What should we do?

Most common cause of fever with cough and cold in this age is some viral infection and it usually gets improved with conservative treatment.
I won't get worried if child is accepting feeds well, there is no breathing difficulty and as fever has also decreased.
Tixylix contains anti allergic and it helps in relieving cold and cough also.
As spasm of airways are common during cough I would like to give some cough syrup containing salbutamol like Ambrodil LS or ambrolite LS drops a bronchodilator (prevents airway spasm).
Continue giving tixylix on regular basis and crocus as and when required.
It may take another 3-4 days for improvement in cough.
Watch for any breathing difficulty, poor oral intake or persistent high grade fever and if you notice any consult your pediatricIan immediately.
