What Causes Burning Urination In A Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Question: My 10 year old daughter started complaining of burning on urination last Sunday, so I took her to the doctor Monday and they did a urine dip and sent a culture, which were negative. She also received the Flu mist at that time. Thursday night she spiked a temp. of 101.4 and vomited with severe headache. I took her to patient first Friday morning because she was still c/o urinary burning and urgency and was febrile. They did another UA and sent a CBC, which showed no sign of UTI. They prescribed Bactrim DS as a precaution which she has been taking twice a day. As of yesterday she has been afebrile, but she is experiencing back pain and muscle pain in her legs and arms ,especially when she is walking. Not sure if this is a side effect of the Bactrim or is this related to Flu vaccine or is there something more I should be concerned with. Please advise. Thanks

Brief Answer:
could be due to flu vaccine

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Flu mist is a live vaccine which is known to cause fever for even upto a week.
But the urinary symptoms you described go more in favour of uti.
Even if reports are fine, continue bactrim . No need to worry.
Ensure she drinks plenty of liquids to keep her hydrated and to flush the infection out.
However if symptoms persist for few more days , she needs reevaluation.

Wishing speedy recovery
