What Causes Burning Sensation In Legs And Feet Upon Resting On Tailbone?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Jun 2015
Question: Seems I'm being thrown out to pasture and running out of fight, but, I had an EMG a few days ago; no results, but tried to ask questions but she said I was only there for tests so - radiculopathy. Fine, however, why, when I sit on tailbone/area of colon resection, is it the only time I have burning in my leg, ankle and feet? Otherwise, the radiculopathy in leg isn't worth mentioning. Really wasting time asking because I'm so complex due to surgeries gone south, nobody wants to deal with me but worth asking.

Brief Answer:
Appropriate spinal exercises regularly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXX,
Its a pleasure to see you again on healthcaremagic.

I feel concerned that you have been going through this extended period of discomfort.

I want to stress upon the following important points here-
1) Are you doing correct spinal exercises regularly?I am doubtful regarding this because if you would have been doing appropriately(appropriate for lumbo-sacral spine) learned exercises with dedication,i'm sure you must have shown some improvement.
2)Are you taking the medicines,as discussed,regularly?Even that's crucial for improvement.If not,please start taking pregabalin,methylcobalamin,amitriptyline and calcium/vitamin D supplements.
PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER A PHYSICIAN'S GUIDANCE.
3)Did you get MRI L-S spine done?If not, please get it done.It will give information about the degree of radicular compression.

Waiting for your follow up query.

I left the Army Medical Center where I was given drugs for over two years. I don't have a doctor. Thought I did, but it was a Physicians Assistant. She gave me a card of a Gastroenterologist. Now, the Gastro doctor at Mayo, by the way, a fine man, from XXXXXXX arranged for an MRI, but, it was because of a fluke - I had incontinence while I was there, and this threw everything off. The Colorectal surgeon hit it right when she said she thinks my GI track has been thrown off - from the hernia repair on I've had major problems; so many times to go to ER, but, nobody would listen or look at hernia repair because someone from Mayo Clinic could never mess up. The mesh holding up the rectum has loosened and I have something that moves, but pokes me in the tailbone, rectum area. I also pulled something on the side of rectum and stool fell out. Too long ignored; I have such fear now, but the cramping is extraordinary - never had pain, gastro issues until surgeries and the two surgeries were so close together it's hard to know what's causing what, but I have had no continuity in care. The Army Hospital has chosen to ignore my facts; getting a provider who can direct is impossible as they can't possibly follow this nightmare. I am taking calcium and Vitamin D. I had an MRI spine done and the report is a joke - does mild stenosis disappear? Degenerative diseases go away; the report was worthless for someone my age. Trust me, look at how long I have written your site. I've had no continuity of care - only thing my provider did was try to manage pain. Spine exercises? I can barely move because I have the gastro issue and the resection issue and no doctor to guide me. If I bend and touch my toes, whatever is pressing in irritates and I am on fire. Long story short, I was never given the opportunity to be heard because Chronic Pain diagnosis got in the way.
Seems quite unique that I only have leg burning when I'm sitting on resection area/tailbone. But, so complicated, so bizarre, I am ready to throw in the towel. Sorry, as usually, I ramble on, but, I want a life and just one person to listen to facts not judge.

Brief Answer:
Please tell me your current and past medications details.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
I feel deeply concerned for all the pain you are being and have been through.
I just tried to help a bit in the situation.

I know about your gastro(colorectal) and multiple surgeries issues right from the time I answered your first query.I pray to God for your good health.

At this point of time, can you tell me your medications details?Medicines you are taking currently and those you have taken in the past?

Do you do spinal exercises everyday? Are you strictly dedicated to these exercises?

What does the gastrosurgeon says on the issue? Can he do something to resolve your issues?
What does the general surgeon says about complicated hernia repair?Does he want to do something to improve the situation?

Waiting for your follow-up question.

I'm told not to do pelvic floor exercises and, the pressure in the tailbone/rectum is so great, I'm lucky if I walk. I accepted radiculopathy - ages ago - it was no big deal - but prior and for over two years my provider gave me up to 8 percocet/day after the hernia repair ADDED 60 mg fentynol patch. I requested safe withdrawal and am off; however, nothing helps the pain. This is not my spine. This is internal. Yes, I have B12 (bought the exact one you said) Xanax - was up to 6 and down to 3 - I had no idea it was not a good thing, but, I get so anxious with the pain, my Psychiatrist agrees it's best to stay at this level for now - I don't understand why the neurologist would not send me reports nor ask questions. I called and was told I was only there for tests. XXXXXXX - your people have heard we have such good health care; you should get in the middle of it. Did you know that once a woman turns 70, mammograms will not be paid for? Obamacare is killing us. The army hospital I got lost in (my husband is a retired 2 star general) sees thousands of patients and are told it's about the numbers not the patients -that is gospel right out of the commanders mouth. So, you see, I'm so far gone. And so many changes because huge amounts go through my system that now my rectum aches. But, gastro dr said to have an MRI; Colorectal surgeon who did the surgery won't talk to me; he admitted he failed. I doubt you want to even try to help because I'm thousands of miles away and you'd have to see me to believe me. Appreciate your time. It's all about the money here. I'd sell everything I have to get continuity; care, but, I guess it's my path. I don't understand it. My best

Brief Answer:
Amitriptyline/Duloxetine

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
I am palpating the deep agony of your's.Getting frustrated about the treating doctors is obvious.Of course,I can give written suggestions only.

Its good that you have got off opioids. But,being through severe neuropathic pain, you need to be on efficacious and potent anti-neuralgic drugs.Have you ever been on amitriptyline(25 mg per day at bedtime will be helpful)? It can be a really useful pain medicine in most of the patients.
Likewise,Duloxetine(starting from 40 mg per day and escalating the dose according to response) can be very helpful in some patients.
I would like you to have a trial of these anti-neuralgic medicines.Hope that this can be of some help to you.

Thank you, but the neuropathic pain is the least of my pain. I only asked about the burning in leg when I am on my tailbone/rectum because that is where part to the surgery was. My insides are torn apart; I'm full of mesh. My provider ignored for two years and I'm trying to get a new provider. It is negligence, total negligence because nobody should have four abdominal surgeries (only one was needed except the others were to correct mistakes) Sorry I bothered you. I can deal with burning, etc. It's my insides I can't.
Appreciate your kindness.

Brief Answer:
Burning is a part of the same spectrum.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
I am sure you have a great will power to tackle the issues.

Burning sensation you are having, is also a part of the spectrum of neuropathic pain and the management is on similar lines.A trial of efficacious antineuralgic medicines is definitely indicated.

Please start taking these medicines and follow up with the response.I hope you'll show improvement.

I'll close this so I can rate you. The burning is only when I am on my rectum where the surgeon cut hole and put colon. Again, I asked the question because I wanted to know if there is a relationship. No worries. Bigger worries within my "gut" and, prior to hernia repair, I did not have excruciating pain; over the top when four days of BM went through. You are most kind in trying to help. Radiculopathy is far from my major issue. I wish it were that simple.
Very kind to follow up with me. Thank you so much. Just hit respond so I can rate you and you won't need to deal with me. I wish I were in XXXXXXX The finest doctor I met was indeed from there - something you are taught or is bred within you - caring for mankind. VR

Brief Answer:
Even surgery is leading to neuropathic pain only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
I really like to stay connected with you.

Neuropathic pain is not just due to peripheral neuropathy.Even surgeries,as in your case, leave injured nerves after resection, which may cause severe neuropathic pain.Same appears to be the case with you.

So,its a sincere request to you-please have a trial of anti-neuralgic medicines I suggested and get back to me with response.

Asking you to close the thread and rating it,is a minor issue. What is important is my concern for you.
You are always welcome with your follow-up questions.
