What Causes Burning Sensation And Purple Discoloration On Penis Head?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,
I'm 27 years old. I recently was checked for stds and test came back negative. I have tested positive for chlymdia in the past but took antibiotics and cleared up. Over last year or so I have noticed red/purplish discoloration in the head of my penis. Also during and after a bowel movement I have a burning sensation in the head of my penis. I do have some drainage after I urinate as well. Also less than a week ago I noticed a very small lump to the left of the base of my penis shaft. The lump is not really visible but I can feel it under my skin(not on my penis, about an inch or so to left of base of penis)

Brief Answer:
Burning over head of penis could be balanitis or balanoposthitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to health care magic,

This burning sensations over the head of penis or red discolouration could be balanitis or balanoposthitis (infection of glans penis).

Can you please take a clinical photograph of the affected part and also that lump over the base of penis shaft and upload as there is a feature to send images on the right side of query page.

It would be also helpful for me to diagnose and rule out and also,if you could say if is there is any history of unprotected intercourse in recent past?

The important thing is to diagnose it first by a clinical examination by a general surgeon by doing inspection and palpation.

The following treatment would be helpful.

1) Hot Sitz bath-

Sit for 15-- 20 minutes and also clean off any clear or whitish secretion. Do it at least twice a day.

2. Local Steroid cream/ointment application-

Clean off and wipe off the area clean and dry, following which apply local steroid ointment like betamethasone,

3. You can be given oral antibiotics like cephalosporins (cefadroxyl or cefixime) or quinolones or macrolides but only after complete clinical examination.

Hope this information will be helpful to you and get back to me with some more information.

Regards,

Dr.SandipKabra

I have uploaded 2 photos. 1st of head of penis, can't tell really but you should see slight discoloration. 2nd image shows a little brown speck, almost like freckle on my shaft that I may have had for a while and not known but just noticed last few wks, this freckle is not raised/can't feel it. The lump is not pictured bc you can't tell at all in pictures, not visible just a small lump under skin. I have a very high protein diet if that matters at all. I have had sex recently but wih only 1 partner who I have been dating for 6+ months. I was tested and came back negative. Mainly just slight drainage after peeing everytime and also iratation in head of penis/sometime anus after bowel movement.

Brief Answer:
Upload image of the head of penis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.

You have uploaded same images of the shaft area.

Kindly send me the picture of head of penis or glance penis.

After care full inspection at the photo, the brown speck or discolouration or redness could be dermatitis or allergic reaction but it is not the worrisome finding here as you do not have burning or irritation over the shaft area.

You can apply mild potent steroid over there as i said earlier.

The small lump is very difficult to locate in the picture,so it will not be able to comment on that.

Also you do not seem to be any kind of pain or burning over the lump.So i don't think there is anything to be worried here regarding that small lump.

However, you can see some local doctor (if dermatologist appointment is not feasible) who wil know about it and give his opinion after examining the lump.

Brief Answer:
As follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for uploading image.

I have carefully inspected the pic of your head of penis.

Here,it could be due to some local infection by which you are experiencing pain or burning sensations over the head of penis.

Also, you talked about pain over the testicles which could be orchitis (due to bacterial infection probably) here but it must be confirmed by clinical examination and some routine tests.

Therefore, you should see some local doctor if dermatologist visit is not feasible, who will inspect the lesion and can prescribe you appropriate treatment.

You should apply mild potent steroid cream/ointment (betamethasone) over the head of penis and shaft of penis. As the steroid may have some side effects, they should be taken under doctor's guidance.

Clean off and wipe off the glance area clean and dry followed by steroid application.

Hot Sitz bath for 15 to 20 minutes minimum once daily and also clean off any clear or whitish secretion over the glance but do not use soap as it may cause burning or irritation and also removes all the natural moisturising effect of the smegma, leaving the glans and foreskin dry and open to infections.

Short course antibiotic may require as i said earlier for which you will need prescription of some local doctor.

And lastly,I will say again there is no need to be worried here as this problem is not that big issue and also they may get subsided with treatment and proper care.

Hope this detailed information will be helpful.

Wishing you a good health.

Regards.
