What Causes Blister Over The Gums Accompanied By Tenderness In Tooth?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I seem to have a re-accuring issue with my teeth. I get little pimple or blister like things on top of my gums. sometimes it is accompanied by tenderness in a tooth. I floss and brush regularly and rinse with a peroxide and mouthwash mixture. the pain when I have it doesn't always stay on one tooth. it reacts to some sugary things I eat but not others. and its sensitivity to temperature also comes and goes. I was told by my dentist at one point that if my pain shifts and doesn't stay in one tooth that it is tissue rather then the tooth. any idea what might be going on?

Brief Answer:
Gum/tooth infection, RCT/scaling

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the pimple like structure over the gums is concerned, it is nothing but a pus discharging sinus tract. This occurs secondary to gum or teeth infection which has resulted in abscess formation. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to take a radiograph to confirm the diagnosis.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed, If it is a tooth infection, it can be treated with root canal treatment. If it is a gum infection, it can be treated by scaling and root planing.
These are the possible causes, diagnosis and treatment plan depending upon your description of your problem. If you can upload the images, I can give you the exact diagnosis and treatment plan.
I hope my answer will help you. Take care.

Brief Answer:
sweets, acid production, pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your feed back.
Regarding pain or sensitivity on consuming sweets is because of the production of acid by the bacteria. So this causes irritation and dissolve the enamel. So it results in pain. That is the reason, you should not consume sweets before going to bed.

Brief Answer:
sweets, acid production, pain

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback, i appreciate your interest and concern. The aggrevating factors for the decayed tooth to develop pain or sensitivity are many. The following are the few causes, temperature changes like hot and cold, sugars(chocolates sweets), citrated fruits, beverages. So all these are acted upon by the bacteria resulting in acid production, so there will be increase in pH with in the pulp that causes pain. Where as on consuming hot and cold, there will be increased blood circulation within the pulp chamber, since pulp chamber is an enclosed cavity, it cant enlarge so the pressure within the pulp chamber applies pressure over the nerves within the pulp chamber. This results in pain.
So you need to get this pulp removed and restore it back with a organic material like gutta percha. This is called root canal treatment.
I hope my answer have cleared your doubts.
Take care.

can an abscess spread to neighboring teeth of not treated even with diligent dental hygiene?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Mahesh Kumar T S (44 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
yes, spread to involve adjacent bone and teeth

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feed back..
The abscess can spread to involve the surrounding bone and destroy the adjacent teeth. So consult a oral physician and get it treated. It is difficult to maintain oral hygiene near the capped teeth. So you need to get your teeth cleaned once in 8-9months.
I hope my answer will help you. Take care
