Question: my husband has been sick with the flu (age 70) and has been in the bed for 4 days. He's been taking daquil and drinking Gatorade, water, and coconut water for the most part. Also, a multivitamin. I just checked him and it looks like a possible bloody discharge from his belly button. He is in the bathroom now cleaning up. What do I need to do? He won't go to doctors

I believe it was blood - it was brown and dried- coming down from his belly button (It was weird, though. No blood on sheets.- he wouldn't let me mess with it. When I saw it, it scared him and he went into the bathroom. He seems fine, otherwise, except for getting over the flu.

I just spoke to him and he says he's fine. But, it wasn't blood on the outside, it's a big brown discoloration from his belly button down about six inches, maybe, and a couple of inches wide.

Please help me. I'm very concerned and he tries to play it off as nothing

Well, I just got to look at it. It isn't brown, more like purple. Like a big bruise.
He's just been laying in bed on his side for about 4 days. The "bruise" doesn't hurt.

What is dengue? And platelets may be low? What would cause that?

For heaven's sake, he has the flu and didn't get bit by a mosquito. Everybody I know have or have had the flu. I think he was in bed so long, twisting and turning, coughing, etc. that he bruised a muscle. Which in turn, caused a bleed under the skin. I appreciate letting me know for a fact that it's not internal bleeding, but, the mosquito thing is next to impossible. I also doubt any low platelets. Thanks for your opinion.
