What Causes Bleeding From The Navel While Suffering From Flu?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: my husband has been sick with the flu (age 70) and has been in the bed for 4 days. He's been taking daquil and drinking Gatorade, water, and coconut water for the most part. Also, a multivitamin. I just checked him and it looks like a possible bloody discharge from his belly button. He is in the bathroom now cleaning up. What do I need to do? He won't go to doctors

I believe it was blood - it was brown and dried- coming down from his belly button (It was weird, though. No blood on sheets.- he wouldn't let me mess with it. When I saw it, it scared him and he went into the bathroom. He seems fine, otherwise, except for getting over the flu.

I just spoke to him and he says he's fine. But, it wasn't blood on the outside, it's a big brown discoloration from his belly button down about six inches, maybe, and a couple of inches wide.

Please help me. I'm very concerned and he tries to play it off as nothing

What is taking so long? Please give me something

Is he bleeding internally? What would cause it to be deep brown?

Well, I just got to look at it. It isn't brown, more like purple. Like a big bruise.
He's just been laying in bed on his side for about 4 days. The "bruise" doesn't hurt.

Brief Answer:
this is not internal bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX this is not internal bleeding. But it is a bleeding spot on skin that is clearing up.
Since he has fever, I am concerned it may be dengue and his platelets may be low, causing the bleed.
This may also be an one-off incident.
But please take it seriously and if you do not want to visit a doctor, please get his
blood counts including platelets and bleeding time test and revert back to me---

What is dengue? And platelets may be low? What would cause that?

For heaven's sake, he has the flu and didn't get bit by a mosquito. Everybody I know have or have had the flu. I think he was in bed so long, twisting and turning, coughing, etc. that he bruised a muscle. Which in turn, caused a bleed under the skin. I appreciate letting me know for a fact that it's not internal bleeding, but, the mosquito thing is next to impossible. I also doubt any low platelets. Thanks for your opinion. I know it's hard to determine without seeing someone. May God bless you and thanks, again.

Hi you asked for possibilities, and I told you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi you asked for possibilities, and I told you.

Dengue is a virus carried by mosquitoes as you have rightly understood. It attcks cells called platelets in blood that makes their count low in blood and the patient prone to bleeding. Hopefully you are right that it was due to turning in blood---

Wishing you the best

Brief Answer:
This is a bruise that caused bleeding and is now clearing.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have got the pictures and seen them. This is a bruise that caused bleeding and is now clearing. Wait for a week. If it clears up fully, no problem.
If it does not clear up or recurs, see your doctor.
