Usually symptoms begin with an intake of 100-200 ml.
Dettol if taken in large quantities can >200 ml can affect heart, kidney, liver and brain.
The usual symptoms/toxic effects are as follows.
1. Nausea, Vomiting and Pain abdomen.
2. Irregular heart beats.
3. Altered sensorium that can progress to coma.
4. Stomach ulceration.
5. Urine disturbances and eventually shut down.
6. Pneumonia.
7. Liver failure.
So immediate treatment with Oral liquid paraffin and subsequent gastric lavage is usually practiced at the ER in a sophisticated hospital to prevent its absorption from the stomach and subsequent toxic effects. Further management is based on the hemodynamic status of the patient.
