Brief Answer:
Chances of HIV is rare but please get tested for confirmation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. HIV is rarely transmitted by lubrication of penis with saliva of partner when having oral sex. This risk is estimated at about 1 in 10000 incidents.

2. It is rare that you might have got HIV infection from above incident.

3. Your sore throat and muscle spasm might be due to other medical condition like viral flu if it has happened many days after the incident.

4. It is recommended that you get tested for HIV by any one of the following methods
(i) Third generation HIV ELISA testing to be done once at 30 days and again to be repeated at 180 days for confirmation. This tests for antibodies to HIV.

or

(ii) Fourth generation rapid HIV test to be done after 30 days only once. This tests for p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV if present.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

In medical science, we talk about the risk of getting any infection. Therefore as per current world statistics, for every 10000 incidents where the partners saliva has come in contact with the penis opening, there might be one person who is likely to get the infection. In other words, 9999 people participating in similar incident will not get the infection in this way.

From above statistics, it is unlikely for you to get the infection but then when you ask me for a reply on the chance of getting HIV in this activity then the answer is only one person out of 10000 will get the infection. This is for your information. For this reason many doctors say risk is nil and they have said in other places on this website that there is no need to worry.

Regarding proceeding with sex with your regular partner, that is entirely your personal decision. However, for peace of mind and safety of you and your partner, it is suggested that you take a HIV screening test and then you will feel relaxed. I am sure your result will be negative.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
