Suggest Treatment To Cure Abscess Caused By Eyelid Infection

Question: Hello I just paid for the subscription for the month. I asked a free question and a doctor responded promptly. However the problem was I could not include enough information for him to really understand what was going on. I paid and answered him back but still have yet to get a response.. Perhaps it didn't go though because I was using the Android app. So I am resenting the question. I have a had a huge boil under my eyebrow above my eye. It ruptured Friday and without completely draining in healed back up. I am taking amoxilcillin 500mgs for the infection, I have never ran fever with this and also it doesn't hurt at all, only the day and the day before it ruptured it hurt. What I am asking is should I continue with the treatment I've been doing.. Hot compresses and taking amoxilcillin or does it need to be lanced. I really would rather not have it Lanced if it is possible to clear it by hot water treatments. Will it come to a head again and burst? I was told not to squeeze it because it would only spread the infection. Maybe I can try to pull the scab off with hot water and some kind of solution? I attached photos using the ask a doctor app. But I do not see how to attach them here. They are saved on my profile if it would help to look at it. It was very horrible looking and swollen before it ruptured.. To the point I couldn't open my eye. I uploaded three photos before is the very swollen eye. After rupture is the one that it is less swollen. This morning is the one it is slightly swollen with hardly any redness but the opening to the rupture has scabbed over and healed and will not drain. The lump has turned from being hard a round to cone shaped and pointed.

Brief Answer: It is abscess of eyelid. Detailed Answer: Hello Welcome to health care magic I am Dr Dadapeer, an ophthalmologist and Ianswer health problems related to eye. I went through the photos, they indicate a abscess because of infection of the eyelid. Since you are not having fever and complaints related to vision, it has not gone beyond the eyelids and it is a good sign. The treatment of the condition is by use of antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Applying hot compression to the swollen area provides symptomatic relief. Since the abscess is opened by itself and pus is drained, no need to worry it will decrease. You need to continue use of antibiotics in your case you are using amoxycillin, do continue it for full course for 5-7 days. Along with this you require to use antiinflammatory drugs and antibiotic eye ointment for quick healing of the wound. Continue hot compression as this help in healing. Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you. Thank you

Brief Answer: Need to continue antibiotics. Detailed Answer: Hello Thank you for the follow up. The pus has drained but inflammation is still present and because of it you are having hard lump. This will decrease with treatment by antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Trying to remove the scab may affect healing, hence leave it to the action of antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs and they will take care of it. Hence I advice you to continue antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs till it is completely healed. Thank you

Brief Answer: Thank you Detailed Answer: Thank you for writing to Health care magic. If you have any further questions I will be happy to answer.Yes I was just wondering how did I get this? I had a sinus infection and was sneezing and wezzing my right eye started to swell only the right eye. Then it completely got better and the swelling went down. Then it started again with a lump along the eyelobe bone. I was using neomycin for the eye and for the eyelid. It went away.. Then came back with angry and swoll so much I couldn't open my eye. My daughter is a RN and my husband has been to med school but never finished.. They are the ones that told me what to do. I didn't want a doctor to cut it open is why I didn't see a doctor. The day I was going to give in and go is when it busted. You don't have to answer this I was just telling you what happened. I am on amoxilcillin and have silver chloride gel that I have put on it after it ruptured it prevents against staph infection. I also have a triple antibiotic cream and I am taking Ibuprofen for anti-inflammatory. If the amoxilcillin doesn't knock the infection out I can get Erythromycin which is stronger. With regards

Brief Answer: Medical treatment is sufficient in your case. Detailed Answer: Hello Thank you for the follow up. As information in the history, the source of infection for lid abscess seems to be sinus infection. The advice given by your husband and daughter to use antibiotics is correct. Since the pus is drained it is unlikely to progress and it will resolve with medical treatment and surgical drainage is not required in your case. Thank you
