Brief Answer:
Middle ear infections can cause complications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Middle ear infections are usually due to build up of fluid in middle ear due to closure of eustachean tube.If it is closed for long time with infection breaking of ear drum and discharge from ear is usual also.

Is your ear drum intact? Most of it after breaking it will heal within 3 days. But if not healing then surgical repair will be needed. If fluid build up is more ENT specialist may give you a (miringotomy) a small hole in ear drum to drain also.
Do you have an examination with ENT specialist?
If antibiotics are not responding or infection present for long time it can cause complications like mastoiditis or puss filled cyst or infection spreading into brain.

A regular follow up with an ENT specialist is required for proper management. Antibiotics should be changed according to sensitivity. Nasal decongesants and maneuvers to open eustachian tube will be helpful.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Acute infection can last 1 to 2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for your follow up query.

Acute infection can last 1 to 2 weeks. But in case of not resolving it can change into chronic infection and last months. In case of complications also it lasts longer. So a consultation with an ENT specialist is well appreciated. In case of fluid build up he may do myrigotomy which will help in early resolving of infection.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
