Brief Answer:
Could be due to protein deficiency or Deep vein thrombosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Since when is the swelling?
Is she mostly bed ridden?
Has she undergone any surgeries in the recent past?
Swelling in this age group is mostly due to protein deficiency or Deep vein thrombosis.
You should get her Liver function tests done which can tell you her Albumin levels and possibly a venous Doppler of involved limbs to rule out DVT.
Fluid discharge would be due to the swelling only.
Show her to a Physician who can examine her and get these tests done.
Increase her protein intake in the form of egg whites, pulses, etc and the involved limbs should be kept elevated above the level of the heart.
Do let me know if there are any queries and the reports as you get them done.
Take care.
