Suggest Treatment For Sinusitis With Congestion And Cough
Question: Been to Dr twice for congestion and cough
Dr said sinusitis
Head Congestion is now off and on with sinus headaches,however the cough is persistent. Starts as a fit like when you inhale something or liquid goes down wrong pipe. Starts with short quick gasps then dry cough followed by a gag. Sometime I get dizzy Coughing so hard my rib cage hurts and it makes my head hurt.
Dr prescribed Antihistamine and Antibiotics
First a Zpak now on day 10 of 500 MG levofloxacin called Dr explaining cough hasn't improved and he prescribed 5 more days of levofloxacin
It has been over 5 weeks now.
Going to try and find anther Dr for a second opinion though most I call aren't taking new patients or I can't see for a month
I am really concerned

I was diagnosed with gerd at the age of 11. It is actually more under control in the past 2 years than most of my life. My last visit with my gastroenterologist was about a year ago. Follow up visit after my endoscopy and colonoscopy.
However it is worse in am, at bedtime and when i lean forward.

What aggravates this cough makes GERD a suspect. You may not report regular pain symptoms but chronic cough is one of the symptoms of GERD. This has to do more with the irritation from the food particles that reflux into the esophagus and throat than the acid. This is why being on omeprazole can mask the pain and not the irritation caused by the food particles.
Talk to your gastroenterologist about this.

What aggravates this cough makes GERD a suspect. You may not report regular pain symptoms but chronic cough is one of the symptoms of GERD. This has to do more with the irritation from the food particles that reflux into the esophagus and throat than the acid. This is why being on omeprazole can mask the pain and not the irritation caused by the food particles.
Talk to your gastroenterologist about this.

Thank you, I will. True that the omeprazole only reduces the acid. I know the gerd still occurs because I can feel it and often food rises back through my esophogas and into my throat and mouth. Though annoying, its not painful anymore.
I definately have head congestion as well so the post nasal drip doesnt help.
