Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain Under The Ribs

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jan 2017
Question: Hi
I shoveled snow on Saturday and now i have this pain under my ribs on my right upper side, plus i have a lot of gas. It dosent hurt much when i press on it. Just feels kind of bloated. I have anxiety which is making this worse. Could i have pulled a muscle after shoveling. Because before that i did not have this. What can i take for this?

Plus im all upset about my Dad, which i think is causing some of this. He passed away in January and this is my 1st Christmas without him. Could that be causing some of my symptoms too?

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Sorry to know about your loss, I can understand the first Christmas without Father.
Read about shoveling the snow and developing pain under ribs on right side, lots of gas, bloating, mild tenderness, anxiety.
This looks to be due to muscle pull and added on by anxiety causing aerophagia causing gas and bloating.
The upset as you have mentioned adds on the presenting symptoms.
I would advise you to continue Advil at 8 hourly interval after food and take a PPI like Omeprazole as Advil can cause gastric irritation.
Take rest, a good sleep helps to relive the muscle spasm, mental tensions, anxiety and such things.
You may also apply some rubrafacient liniment which increases local warmth and helps relaxing the muscles.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
Merry Christmas in advance.

Brief Answer:
Warmth helps

Detailed Answer:
Since you are already taking Nexium you do not need Omeprazole.
Warmth helps; icing helps only in the first 6 hours.
Omeprazole does not help with the gases, You may take antacid and anti-flatulents - try Gas-X that is activated charcoal.
You may ask your Doctor medicines for the the upset for a few days, helps a lot- needs a prescription from your Doctor.
You may get the liniments or ointments that on application increases the local temperature and are called Rubrafacients- please ask your Pharmacy as they would provide you whichever are available with them. Or even ask for local muscle relaxers.
Take care.

I feel so tired to, could I have a a touch of the flu? I just got some omerpozel, but I didn't see this until now. Can I take ginger ale or 7 up till. Get some gas-x?

Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (1 minute later)
Brief Answer:
Avoid ginger ale and 7 up

Detailed Answer:
Too much stress of any sort can enhance and appear as flu.
Ginger can increase acidity related problems and aerated drinks can increase gas and bloating hence better to avoid.
Anything made fresh at home is best.
It is OK, your can take Omeprazole and stop Nexium for the time being, let us see which works the best for your acidity related problems. Alternatively you can try Ranitidine. Observe which one helps you the best and continue with it.

Brief Answer:
As explained below.

Detailed Answer:
I hope you have continued with Advil.
Since the most important part is coming nearby I would advise you to consult a Doctor for clinical evaluation, actual examination, investigations if asked for and to get an additional treatment so that you can get well very soon to have a great Christmas.

I have been taking the Advil. I don't have money for a doctor that's why I'm asking here. I have some sinus pressure on my eyes, been taking sudafed for that, is that any good? Should I rest or should I move around? I have a Varicous vein in my hip that's swollen up, my doctor knows about this, she told me to put ice on it every three hours, some days it hurts like now and some days it doesn't. I'm going to get some gas-x today. I've been drinking a lot of water is that good? I'm on meds for depression and anxiety.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Okay.
Continue Advil and Sudafed as above. Sudafed is good.
If you have pressure on the sinuses, you also need to instill decongestant nasal drops.
Take rest, this helps early recovery.
Taking lot of water is definitely a good step.
Also continue putting ice on the varicose veins as you have been .
Also continue your medicines for depression and anxiety.

Stop thinking too much, you will be fine sooner.
