Question: One month ago I was on a 12 day business trip to Egypt, midway through the trip I experienced evening body chills and when I went to bed I had night sweats that soaked the bed. I thought I was dehydrated so I increased my fluids but things remained the same. along with decreased appetite I had some discomfort in my leg joints so when I returned I thought I would get better but I still have leg discomfort and for a week swollen ankles, still low appetite and fatigue with occasional night sweats. can this be virus related, I am getting in to see my doctor within a week

Brief Answer:
Some possible diagnoses to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

It is not very common that a virus lasts for one month unless you have gone through infectious mononucleosis (sore throat, swollen glands, symptoms expecially fatigue that lasts for one month).
Also, you need to rule out possible parasytes in the stool or infections that might get while in a trip like malaria, typhoid, ect (depends on your vaccination record).

Lastly there are some things that cause chronic fatigue like Anemia or blood problems (so consider doing a Complete blood count) and a TSH to check your thyroid function.

Hope this is helpful to give you an idea of how would your doctor approach you.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Regards,
Dr.Papaqako

would any of these things mentioned also explain the night sweats which I have never experienced before. I also thought of mono but have not had any sore throat or glands just fatigue. I am getting an appointment set for a full annual next week with full blood workup and hopefully something will be detected
