default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jun 2016
Question: I'm having severe leg pain in both legs. It's almost unbearable. Also, I have a general feeling of being "uncomfortable " I dont know how else to describe it. I don't know if it's related but my hands have been very swollen the last few days. If you have any suggestions that could help it would be appreciated.

My hands have been swollen for about a week.
I do suffer neck pain due to 3 displaced disc. I take a lower dose of Lortab and a muscle relaxer.
The general discomfort and leg pain started this evening.
I normally feel well in the mornings.
I have had some stomach pain after eating this week. I take zantac twice a day everyday. I have regular bowel movements. Normally every morning.
Sleep is okay.
I do sometimes get lightheaded.
I am an insulin dependent diabetic. glucose levels have been okay.
I am currently not working. However, I do care for my best friend about 3 days a week. He is a paraplegic.
No varicose veins
I do have some mild back pain
I also take vitamin E and D
I am overweight.
You suggest taking walks but if I walk much I have really bad leg cramps in the calf area. The leg pain that I'm experiencing now is mostly in my thigh area.
I hope this answers all of your questions.
Thank you.

Hi Dear XXXXXXX !! Thanks for your updates.
I was wondering why you are confused to tell more details about your severe leg pains. So I took special efforts and reviewed your past history since Aug,2015-in past 9-10 months,to resolve this problem from you.

Summing up Your complex health issues-
To my XXXXXXX What I found that the fault is not with you,but with multiple confusing ailments-centring around your obesity, with accompanied diabetes/hypertension, added cervical disc prolapse with spinal stenosis and steroids for it and epigastric pains lately in XXXXXXX 16.

Reasons for your Severe leg pains and uncomfortable feel with swollen hands-

a-of severe leg pains-its mostly due to the uncontrolled diabetes, giving rise to leg cramps. This is mostly due to the? early IBS with Acid reflux you suffer lately since XXXXXXX 2016.I would suggest to Consult endocrinologist / or Physician and if need be Surgeon - fix an d diagnose the undiagnosed-?IBS health issue and re-adjust IBS induced- loss of control of diabetes you have, which seems to be mainly contributing to your severe leg cramps-
Most important- STOP stressful walking for few days, but you can continue with 20 minutes walking, for health reasons.
Reduction in obesity-is a priority-for which you should Consult with a team of Physician with nutritionist- as its adding to your leg pains, by virtue of-low back ache, with ? prolapsed disc-with ?Sciatica, for which you need to consult with Orthopedic Surgeon and get it investigated.

b-Your hand swelling needs to be attended with NeuroSurgeon as it could be related to the ?Steroid treatment you are on for the Cervical disc prolapse with spinal stenosis.

c-Your general discomfort-I would Suggest you to reduce on multiple medicines and would ask you to be careful about the ?IBS, which is complicating your diabetes/obesity and low back, which need further investigations,as its still not investigated.

In such a complex scenario,It would be better to be under cover of your-Physician and to continue with split suggestions for the multiple disease ailments , being treated with multiple expert doctors.

To conclude,I understand your confusion and I feel Concerned about the complex health issues you are going through.

3 Imp-Alerts for your fast recovery-
So in brief, I would suggest as follows-
a-For severe leg pains-Check with Orthopedic and investigate for missing lumbar disc prolase and -Check up with Physician and if need be with Endocrinologist-to Correct ?undiagnosed IBS with acid reflux and readjust insulin doses,to control the sugar levels strictly-as it is adding to your leg pains
and Reduce the stressful walks -and reduce it to comfortable walk for 2o-30 minutes daily.Reduce work stress also, if any.
b-Check for the hand swelling- with attending NeuroSurgeon and with your neurologist-who is-controlling steroid treatment for cervical issues, if any.
c-Discomfort lately seems to be related to your severe leg pains, added up by
multiple pain killer medicines and other medicines which you seem to be taking, but not mentioned in your submission in this query.

Next appointment for Review-after 2-3 weeks
I would ask you to work on these lines suggested and come back to ME for a review on the updated progress you would experience, after a period of 2-3 weeks.
