Suggest Treatment For Severe Hair Loss

Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: I started noticing thinning hair on my head about 2 months ago. Since then it has progressively gotten much worse and is now severe. The loss seems to encompass the entire scalp. I had some blood work done recently for an unrelated matter and my MCV, MCH and MPV levels all came back abnormal (MCV: 116, MCH: 39, MPV: 8). My doctor told me that these are nothing to be concerned about and are most likely unrelated to my extreme hair loss. The more I read online however, the more concerned I am becoming - especially with the MCV. So my questions are: 1. Could my hair loss be a symptom of one of these values being abnormal? 2. Should I be concerned with the MCV level? A couple of things to note are that my TSH, T3 and T4 are all normal, I take a vitamin B12 supplement, and my CRP was also slightly elevated at 0.4.
I also wanted to mention that my B12 and Folate levels were well within the normal range.

Brief Answer:
Your high mcv has no relation with your hair problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
Your mcv value is very high. It indicates large size of rbcs. It may be due to vitamin B12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency, alcoholism.

1. Your hair loss symptoms had no relation with your mcv.
2. Your b12, folic acid and thyroid hormone levels are normal. So you should not worry about your mcv level. No need to concern regarding high mcv. Just repeat your complete blood count and mcv after 1 month.

Your c reactive protein is slightly elevated but is not high enough to need concern.
Please send me your all other reports.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.
