Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Pain

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Sep 2017
Question: I am having severe chest pain similar to what I had when I had pneumonia. It goes away and then comes back. I was in the ER most of the day on Monday and they ruled out stroke and heart attack but said that my heart enzymes showed some recent stress on my heart, but were heading to the normal range. They are thinking either ulcer or GERD. Since then, I've had varying levels of daily pain today being the worst. I don't want to go back to the ER and go through the tests again, but will if I have to. I normally have a very high tolerance for pain, but this is really bad. It will briefly get better, usually after I eat or drink and then come back again and be very bad. It's also better if I lay down, and this may sound weird, but without a bra on.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a musculo- skeletal pain.

The fact that your symptoms are modulated by certain body positions, indicate a musculo- skeletal pain.

For this reason, I would recommend trying ibuprofen for the pain. If it helps improve your situation, it would be another argument in favor of musculo- skeletal pain.

From the other hand the increase in your cardiac enzymes, raises suspicions of a possible coronary artery disease, although the relief of the pain by certain body positions is not typical of this disorder.

Nevertheless an exercise cardiac stress test or a cardiac stress echo would help investigate for this disorder.

I would also recommend performing a fibrogastroscopy in order to investigate for gastritis or reflux.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Kind regards,

Dr.Iliri
