Suggest Treatment For Severe Arm Pain While On Ibuprofen

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Jan 2016
Question: I have a terrible pain in my right arm that radiates from my shoulder down to my elbow. Lately the pain is accompanied by a fluttering type sensation. My arm feels as though it is trembling. There is also pain in the bend of my arm that worsens when I am asleep and the muscle in my forearm aches along with this pain. During the day, the pain isn't as noticeable, however, today the upper arm pain bothered me all day. The pain has been occurring off and on for about four months. It has intensified in this last week. Ibuprofen eases it somewhat but not for very long.

Brief Answer:
Possible degenerative spine disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Pain that radiates in one arm most probably is related to pinched nerve (s) at their exit from cervical spinal cord.

Conditions that may cause this include arthritis of the cervical spine, degenerative and herniated disc disease of the cervical spine.

Less likely, those symptoms may be related to compression of nerve (s) along their pathway outside the spine ( tunnel syndromes ).

There is need for diagnostic tests in order to achieve the correct diagnosis and build a treatment strategy.

Tests include x-rays and MRI of cervical spine, nerve conduction study as well.

Treatment is different for each possible condition mentioned above and range from NSAID drugs, physical therapy, epidural injections to surgery.

These issues should be discussed with your primary care Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
