Question: What is a person to do when they have real pain but don't want to get on the pain pills because of their addiction to the pills? I want to live a productive live and I am in day 2 of withdrawl from pain pills and am feeling better mentally, but wow these muscle spasms, I feel like a fish out of water. I cant sleep, I feel like I have restless body syndrome and am sneezing like crazy. I have a disc that is pressing on nerve and it hurts like crazy and when I go to walk, it kicks out on me. Anything you can suggest?

Brief Answer:
Addiction occurs only if misued

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

I'm sorry that you are suffering that much for pain. Pain pill addiction occurs if you take pills for longer duration and/or misuse it. If you take prescribed dose then addiction does not occurs. Pill withdrawal should be gradual to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Similarly in your case if you gradually decrease the dose then symptoms would be less. Apart from pill, following measures will also help you to reduce the pain intensity:

- Do consult an orthopedic surgeon once for your disc problem so that he can give you better opinion regarding it.
- Physiotherapy sessions
- ibuprofen twice a day for 5 days
- Take hot water in a rubber bottle and place it at the site of pain. It will give soothing effect.
- Psychotherapy will also be of assistance.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
