Suggest Treatment For Rectal Pain
Question: Hi, I have been suffering on and off etremely sharp shooting pains up my rectum for almost a year. The pains have gradually grew more frequent and I am now suffering almost constantly everyday now. The pains are now not only up my rectum but also in the vagina and I also get pains in left side of abdomen and sometimes inner/upper thighs. I it is so unbearable. I have recently had results of an abnormal smear and due for biopsy & coploscopy in less than a few weeks. I also have ovarian cysts. Could this be related to any of these? If not what are the possibilities? And what is reccommended as next step to follow through local gp. Kind regards...thank you

1.disseminated endometriosis
2.pelvic inflammatory disease.
These disorders can be carefully ruled out by transvaginal ultrasonography followed by laproscopic hysteroscopy if needed.
Biopsy and colposcopy can also give validated conclusions.
Ovarian cysts have no relationship to these pains.
Get the above mentioned investigations and report to your physician.

Thank you ever so much for replying. Can you tell me more about disseminated endometriosis please? I have never heard of it. I may also add that I had an implanon put in my arm in july this year and have not had a period since. This is my 3rd implanon and this has not happened before. My periods were aways early, heavy & painful and I almost always passed out when on them prior to this implanon insertion. I started my cycle at the young age of 8, I have gave birth to 2 kids and also had four/five miscarrages, the first 2 due to my blood group o rhesus negative. I am now 32 years old. I thought I should add this info incase needed. Kind regards

Disseminated endometriosis is distinct disease entity caused by retrograde flow of menstrual blood from uterus into abdominal cavity through the fallopian tubes.
This can result in seeding of various zones of abdominal cavity leading to periodic painful spasms in the lower back.
Now going by your present history i would like to favour Pelvic inflammatory disease ,as such this is more commonly associated with child births,abortions,any pelvic procedures during which infection can ascend up from fallopian tubes into the pelvis causing inflammation of the surrounding viscera including rectum.
This should be confirmed through laproscopy .
Antibiotics can be managed as the first choice drug.ex doxycycline or ceftriaxone to be taken under strict medical prescription.

Thank you kindly again. I haven't had a pregnancy since 8 years ago, the last one was a miscarraige at only 7 weeks. I had a transvaginal ultrasound aprox 2/3 years ago for other problems and that was when the ovarian cysts were found but nothing else was found. Would the pelvic inflammatory disease still be possible after so many years since last pregnancy? Kind regards

Ovarian cysts if big enough and not producing any ova can also lead to infertility similar to PID.
