Brief Answer:
Can you please upload an image for review?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this rash. This could be related to a drug reaction. To make this difference, I will like to review the image before drawing a conclusion on this. Taking benadryl at this time is safe and would not cause any harm even if it does not help. However, the best approach to this if it is caused by a drug reaction would be to stop the medication completely.

For now, I await the image for review and would follow with more insights and specific information. Until then, I wish you well.

Stop the medications and talk to your doctor!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is an allergy rash. The most likely cause are your drugs. Please, discontinue them immediately and report to your doctor for further review and management.

Keep me updated with your progress.

I stopped the clarithromycin as advised by my doctor. She told me to keep taking Amoxycillin since i had taken it before with no problems. I had never taken clarithromycin before do that is most likely what caused me to get the rash. They are prescribing another antibiotic to go with the Amoxycillin. The reason for the antibiotics is because i have an h. pylori infection. I have taken Benadryl twice today. The rash looks the same but hasnt gotten worse. I still feel the flushing sensation though. Could the Amocycillin be causing the rash too? I am taking 500mg cap Amoxycillin 2 pills twice a day 12 hours apart. Thank you for your advice .

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be amoxicillin because you have been taking this before!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is unlikely to be amoxicillin because you have been taking it before. The main worry hear is clarithromycine as your system is not used too before. Your system has known amoxicillin and would be unlikely that it reacts to it at this time. The trash would not disappear in a day, as long as it does not get worse, you are fine. Healing would set in. Flagyl can conveniently replace clarythromycin in this treatment regimen against h. pylori. What new drug did your doctor give you?

Best wishes in all and wish you a speedy recovery. Keep me updated and let me know if you need more assistance and I will be more than happy to do so.

Ok. At first they told me to stop Clarithromycin only and stay on Amoxycillin, and they prescribed Flagyl, just as you suggested, to replace the Clarithromycin. And told me take Benadryll every 4 hours in the mean time. When I woke up the day the rash was down a bit. So i took the Amoxycillin only. Hadnt gotten the Flagyl filled yet. So i went to work and came home and noticed that the rash flated up again. So i called my doctor again and they prescribed 21-4mg pills of Methylprednisolone for a total of 6 days. Day 1: 6 pills spread out. Day 2: 5 pills spread out. And so on until only one pill on day 6. I have allready noticed that the rash has dramatically subsided, but i still feel the flushing here and there. Is this Methylprednisoline safe? Is there a risk of bad side effects with this stuff? Or is the 6 day treatment minor for side effects? Thanks .

Brief Answer:
There are little side effects on a short course treatment of prednisolone!

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

This drug for 6days has negligible side effects. The prescription is perfect with a gradual tapering off. Be relaxed and confident about the proper management of your condition. All is moving in the right direction.

I wish you well.

I just have a few more questions and then i will accept your answer and give you a perfect review. Because you have helped so much. Approximately how long does this type of rash last? It seems to subside then flare up, then subside again and then flare up again. It only seems to get better for a little while then i feel the heat and see the rash again. Like just when i think its going away, it comes back strong again. Is that a normal part of the healing process? Is it normal for this type of rash to make my skin feel warm heat and flushed? I stopped all antibiotics Thursday and started Methyprednisolone Friday with Benadryl every 4 hours. Also since i am infected with H. Pylori would my wife and daughter also be infected through contact with me? Should they be checked? Ive included a photo of my face fir your review. It is a little puffy and a deeper pink than normal. Thankfully no breathing issues so far. Thank you kindly for your response .

Detailed Answer:
This rash represents an inflammatory response. Inflammation leads to increased blood flow to the affected area. This is why you would find it flushed and warm. This is normal and would resolve progressively.

As I mentioned, allergies subside overtime. It might no always been a smooth downward trend. However, it should not get any worse than where we started off. It that ever happens, only then would be more concerned that I could be missing out on something.

H. Pylori is a germ and transmitted through poor hygienic practices. It is possible that your family can contract it from you but it is not that easy. You need real contact and poor sanitation to contrast it. Also, we do not screen persons for this on the basis of contact history alone. If they are infected, they would report abdominal symptoms. For now, testing them is not warranted unless symptoms of a disease suggestive of this are reported.

I have reviewed your image. I like your look and the rash is typical. Stay true to the treatment plan and am positive all would be okay.

Until next, I wish you well. As always, am available and glad to address any concerns that you have.

Please, unless something severe like decreased urination, difficulties to breath, inability to support the discomfort, etc., there is no need to go to the ER for this.

Hello doctor. 4th day of steroids and 2 more to go. Thought i post an update photo of my recovery process. Anyway i noticed last evening i started getting really flushed in my face and neck. Then went for a walk with my family and the flushedness went away. Rash is mostly gone. I wonder if the warm flushedness could be anxiety since i have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder with OCD tendencies. Or if its nust a side effect if the Methylprednisolone? The flushed feelings show up in different spots but the rash and redness has gone way down. Thank you so much for your help. When you respond i will accept and review. Thank you .
