Suggest Treatment For Pyogenic Liver Abscess
Question: A friend of mine is diagnosed with Live abscess pyogenic. The doctors advised to go for a surgical procedure to remove the pus. we are looking for a second opinion

Thank you very much for the quick turn around.
He still has onset of fever every couple of times in a day. He gets restless and at times finds difficult to sleep. Earlier he was on ventilation and saline, but now he is off them. He has pain in the right shoulder area. He has pain when he coughs and is extremely weak.
The pus could not be drained earlier because it was dense. He was given antibiotics and the doctor attending to him has said that they will drain the pus tomorrow using catheter and will continue to do so for next few days.
The cause of the abscess is still not clear. Please let me know if there is more you need to know.
He was earlier treated for typhoid, malaria and jaundice symptoms. Since he did not improve and started to experience breathing problems, the family consulted a specialist and then liver abscess pyogenic. Given the wrong diagnosis, the first time we want to be sure he is not put through more troubles.

Looking to the current situation clinically and radiologically, he is fit for drainage, ultrasound guided is the best option followed by indwelling catheter
You should go for culture of the pus drained and treat accordingly
Usually we have seen this to turn out to be amoebic liver abcess, any way I saw the prescription containing Metronidazole on a safer side
So please go ahead with the procedure
