Suggest Treatment For Placenta Previa During 33 Weeks Of Pregnancy
Question: Hi doctor,
am 33 weeks pregnant and been diagnosed with placenta previa..i have also suffered from bleeding 3 times is last one and half months..my doctor has advised to take duphastan and duvadillan retard since last 3 months..i have read so many negatives about these medicines on the baby..pl advise about use of any of these medicines in my case..how long should i continue it?

1 ) First of all do not panic.
2 ) As you have already been in the 3 3 weeks of pregnancy, I will suggest you the following -
Please take rest .
Do not make jerky movements.
Continue with your iron and Calcium supplements, and ensure good hemoglobin levels.
3 ) As such, Tab . Duvadilan is uses as uterine muscle relaxant . But in case of placenta pre via the bleeding is not related to contraction of the uterus.
In my opinion, you need not take Tab Duvadilan.
It can lead to rise in pulse rate which can lead to dilemma if pulse rate also rises due to bleeding of placenta pre via.
4 ) Tab Duphaston, is a pro gestational hormone. It can be taken as support to pregnancy.
You need not take this medicine after 36 weeks of pregnancy.
5 ) As such , both these drugs are not harmful to baby. But in my opinion, you can restrict the use as discussed above.

thank you doctor for your response. is there any treatment for bleeding due to placenta previa? my doc gave injectibles of pause , duvadillan and sustain for 2 days..can we prevent the bleeding through any medicine or exercise? also, how much bleeding is really worrisome and needs immediate action

1. In case of placenta previa, placenta is located near the cervix. mouth of the womb.
This Lower Part Of Uterus Gets stretched slowly with the pregnancy and baby's growth .
Because if the stretching of the wall , bleeding can occur and this bleeding is a painless and cause less bleeding.
As such there are no medicines or exercise to stop or prevent this condition. And exercise apart from walking on plain grounds is not advisable.
2.One Can control the bleeding with tablets and injection of Tranexamic acid (Pause ).
Any amount bleeding which you feel is more than just spotting , should be alarming and you need to be with medical care unit at the earliest.
If I was your treating doctor, I will suggest you to get C Section done at the completion of 37 weeks of pregnancy or earlier if you get bleeding episode that affects your vital parameters , like rise in pulse rate, lowering of blood pressure, lowering of hemoglobin .
Please do not panic. but be alert and cautious.

thank you for such detailed response. what is the earliest we can deliver the baby without compromising his/her well being? i was given two doses of dexa at around 31 weeks when i was admitted for bleeding episode. is there any side effects of pause tablet and for how many days we can take this medicine? thanks in anticipation
