Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough In A Child
Question: My son has had a bad cough, both productive and non productive for about 10 days; he does not cough in his sleep and otherwise he feels fine. Should I take him to get checked?

It can be related to laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up query.
In that case it can be related to laryngopharyngeal reflux. Acid reflux can cause throat and upper respiratory irritation cough and mucus production. Taking proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole ( Nexium ) for 1 to 2 weeks will be helpful for this. Avoid excess spicy, excess fatty and junk food. Carbonated drinks and coffee should be avoided also.Have dinner at least 2 hours before bed time. Raise the head end more with extra pillows while sleeping.
Even after following above measures still he is having cough then consult your physician for proper physical examination and auscultation of lungs.
