Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: My son is 19 with systemic JRA and recently was in the ER with pericarditis. He is experiencing the same pain ,but refuses to go back to the ER because, "they will only give him something for the pain and send him home." (IE. it wont really cure anything). I would like to take him just for safties sake, Can someone tell me what to look for that tells us when it is imparative for him to get help?

Brief Answer:
yes, it is imperative to get help now

Detailed Answer:
Hello
welcome to health care magic
I really appreciate your concern

pericarditis in a case of JRA may be associated with fever and chest pain, diagnosis can be ascertained by few lab investigations with clinical examination.

I would advise you take him to ER for a battery of test like CBC ESR CRP and an ECG or Echocardiography

Please ask your doctor for an anti inflammatory drug like ibuprofen or naproxen for pain

I hope you will find my response helpful and informative please feel free to ask for further clarification I will be happy to help you

Best wishes
