Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Polymenorrhea is the term used when the interval between periods is less than 21 days.

There are different possible causes, the most common causes are: (1) endometriosis - the inner lining of the uterus is called the endometrium.

In endometriosis , there are deposits of the endometrium outside of the uterus

(2)stress- emotional or physical stress can cause disruption in the period frequency

(3)infections- sexually transmitted infections can result in this abnormality

(4)uterine fibroids- the presence of fibroids can cause heavy bleeding but cann also be associated with frequent menstruation as well.

(5)menopause- this would not apply to your age group

If you are experiencing any stressful conditions then this may be the cause of your abnormal periods.

If this is not the case, then you can consider monitoring to see is there is any abnormality with your next cycle.
If your cycles return to normal then there is no need for any intervention.

If your next cycle is also close to this one, then you should consider visiting your doctor for an assessment which may include an ultrasound to take a look at the uterus.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
