Suggest Treatment For Low Libido In A Menopause Woman

Question: I am 63, I went through Menopause about 8 years ago, and over these years, I have become less and less interested in sex. My husband of 41 years has become more and more interested. In addition to the factor of have Hashimoto's disease, and this seems to make the problem worse. I value my husband and my marriage. Do you have any suggestions, to help keep the fire going in our marriage under these circumstances?

I can understand your problem. Having a very low sex drive and libido at your age is a common occurrence in case of women. Low levels of estradiol, thyroxine and thyrotrophin levels in the blood are the most likely causes of decreased libido in your case.
For the treatment of lack of libido, follow these treatment options:

1) Eat a healthy, nutritious diet and indulge in yoga and meditation.

2) Pelvic floor exercises (Kegel exercises) can improve your awareness of the muscles involved in pleasurable sexual sensations and increase your libido.

3) Estrogen therapy as pill, patch or gel, vaginal cream or a slow-releasing suppository or ring that you place in your vagina can increase blood flow to the vagina and help improve desire. But they are available under prescription of a gynecologist.

4) Other than that suction vibrators which has been used widely in US are very effective in improving libido.

5) Lastly testosterone therapy can be tried but it has side effects like hairiness, spots, a deep voice and enlargement of the clitoris.
During postmenopausal period, loss of libido is normal, which can be combatted with dedication.

Work with your partner to make sure you are staying close. Go on dates, enjoy activities together that may increase your desire for sexual pleasure together. For women, the desire for sex does not usually start in the bedroom, but rather when you are enjoying quality time in your relationship.
