Posted on Thu, 30 Mar 2017
Question: My daughter has a low grade fever and achy all over and has been having lower back pain on both sides but more on the left side. She also has a headache. She is 25 years old. Would it be the flu or our concern is if it is a kidney infection or not.

Brief Answer:
How is her urination? Any changes? Any fever?

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed the details of your daughter fully.

1. If this were a kidney infection, she would report a fever and probably have changes in her urine pattern. Let us know what her temperature is and whether she has any urinary changes. Drinking much water would be helpful, too.

2. It could be a flu but we will need to monitor further. I will suggest that you stop Ibuprofen and go with tylenol, 1000mg every 8hours for pain control. Tylenol is more patient friendly than Ibuprofen.

I hope to hear back from you. I wish your daughter a speedy recovery and do promise to provide more insights and helpful tips to overcome this.

She does have a low grade fever (99.6) but she is not so sure her thermometer is working right, and she said her urine was a little cloudy last night but not as much today. Also, her temperature normally runs lower than the 98.6.

Brief Answer:
I will say unlikely to be a urinary tract infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is unlikely to represent a urinary tract infection. I will lean more towards a possible flu> I maintain tylenol alone and observation. Unless something else comes up, which you should report to me, there is no reason to get worried.

I wish you well.
