Suggest Treatment For Knee Pain While Trying To Wean Off Methadone

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I was on Methadone for 16 years, I went all the way up to 210 mg a day (21 - 10mg tablets). But I came back down to 6 10mg tablets a day,... by myself. I couldn't keep taking that stuff any longer. I was sick and tired of taking it. I recently switched to Suboxone and that was three days ago. So far the withdrawal symptoms have subsided, but now I have XXXXXXX low level of energy. Plus, my bad knee is hurting again.
Are there any options for me to get my energy back, the hurt in the kneed reduced?
Thanks to anyone who can help!!

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern.

If the withdrawal symptoms are worse initially, You may take a repeat dose initially of suboxone , not to exceed greater than 8 mg.

The knee pain could have been masked by the methadone till now and is now manifesting. You may take gabapentin and ibuprofen with PPI cover initially to see for improvement. If symptoms persist, please consult a rheumatologist for further workup.

The low energy could be due to a number of reasons. In your case you have to realize that methadone was used in high doses and would require sometime before the effect is lowered. you may ask your doctor to prescribe an SSRI to help you cope with the low energy, get your routine investigations done to rule out anemia or any other metabolic cause eg hypothyroidism.

I would also suggest you consult a psychiatrist
so that a XXXXXXX mental state exam is performed.
to ascertain depression and or anxiety,
Meds can be adjusted afterwards in addition
to cognitive behavioral therapy. Yoga and meditation , too have proven benefit
in addition to relaxing exercise.
