Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Hi, My name is XXXXXXX XXXXXXX and my question is I have some itchy spots on my abdomen and they come on one at a time and if I scratch it, it will look like I have a tiny little bite. Very tiny. as small as a pin head and almost like a bite of some sort, but I can never see an insect around. Have you ever heard of this? My doctor just said it was probably eczema. But I don't think so.

Brief Answer:
See Dr, topical drugs, follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

It is important to know exactly if the spots spread when you scratch. Have you noticed that even without scratching the spots still spread?
It is important to note if the area round the itchy spots is reddish or not. If red, it is suggestive of a acute inflammatory reactions. Treatment in this case would require steroids.

If not, in case of dry itchy spots, the diagnosis of your doctor as eczema could be possible, but not very certain.

Starting treatment with ointments containing a steroid, an antibiotic and an antifungal drug would be most welcome like (Positon (R), Candiderme Creme (R).

The opinion of a dermatologist should be should be sought of symptoms fail to fade out with this treatment.

In case the spots have no reddish color, eczema would be a reasonable suggestion. Simple anti fungal drugs like topical Clotrimazole, Ketoconazole would be useful

The opinion and implication of your doctor in appreciation the clinical state before treatment and follow up, in my opinion, are of utmost importance.

Kind regards,

Dr Bain

My skin feels like it is kind of burning and itching, but it has no color until I scratch it and then it will look like a tiny little spot, kind of like a chigger bite, only a chigger bite will keep on itching, and this doesn't once you scratch it. Or could it be chiggers. My husband cuts our grass and he plays golf and then he comes in and sets by me in a double recliner until he decides to take a shower. Could I be getting chiggers from him? He doesn't seem to be bothered by them. They are only on the front of me on my abdomen and around the sides of me and the waist.

Brief Answer:
Eczema, antifungals, follow up by Dr

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the update,

the description in my opinion is compatible with eczema or any other fungal disease. It is rare this should be an inflammation or allergic reaction. If your husband does not complain, his job or places he has visited would rarely have nothing to do with this.

Antifungal drugs are first line in this case in my opinion. However, follow up by a Dr still remains important.

Dr Bain
