default
Posted on Wed, 8 Apr 2015
Question: My symptoms started on March 13, from my left shoulder and have progressed everyday to my neck, thighs, armpits, Lower back, sacrum, and Butt. The lesions, are raised and itchy they have a sandpaper quality to them. The blisters on my hand are palmer and dorsal. They hurt it feels like my hand is swollen. This is really a shock, just one day started waking up with all these bumps, and blisters. My dermatologist and doing a biopsy so I will know more later, but if you may rule out other serious conditions that would be much appreciated. Also please let me know of what you think this might be and any other questions for me. Thank you

1) Do theu Itch? Yes, but mostly on the sacrum, butt, and genital areas.

2) What kind of discharge they give on bursting? I believe clear discharge.

3) Is there any fever with it? No fever, sense I have developed symptoms on March 13, 2015.

4) Any body you came across recently had any infection like this? No, Im a massage therapist but I have never seen anyone with such blisters.

5) Have you ever had chicken pox? No, I don't believe I have.

6) Any visit lately to some different place? No visit.

7) Any meds you are taking? Before Symptoms: Ibuprofen, Tylenol, valerian root for sleep After Symptoms: Hydrocortisone cream, oral corticosteroid x60mgx2days : helping to decrease swelling but bumps remain on the skin more flat. I also take Benadryl 10mg at night to help go to sleep.

8) Any specific allergy? Can this be cause by a specific allergy food? I ate some shrimps and cashew nuts, from panda express. Maybe I'm allergic to that.

Just to add the shoulders feel like Goosebumps and sandpaper kina texture when I run my fingers as well as the back of my neck. My palms and dorsal are affected with blisters between my fingers. The backside and butt gets very itchy as well. My question is can this be a virus? Thank you

Brief Answer:
did your dr rule out viral?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back ..

I have seen the pictures.. they look like allergic rash or a viral rash... most probably this is allergy... if there ia no real fever but you feel feverish that might well be allergy.

No this does not look like chicken pox, this is very diffuse lesion plus chicken pox usually come woth high fever.

I shouldn't be contradicting your dermatologist because he has access to your skin and must have examined you before prescribing steroids but you may well have a viral issue and in that case steroid may aggravate this.

Biopsy will rule out allergy or infection but i suggest you to ask you doctor if there is a possibility of viral infection? and if yiu need some antiviral as a treatment.

do you feel much better with steroids?

Do you have this in mouth as well and any burning in urination?

Did you get any blood test? what did that say?
Was it normal?

Have you ever eaten shrimps before and any history of allergy with them?

I hope things are geeting better with you as time is passing.

waiting for your response.

hi, thanks for the response. Their is no burning with urination and their is no fever. The steroids are also helping to calm down the swelling and itching, and the amount of bumps and redness has declined, the only thing is their is more redness in the lower extremities and butt area. Do you what this might be? And yes my dermatologist most likely suspects its allergy based after examining my skin. I don't really have this in my mouth but some minor bumps around the lips area towards the chin that are barely noticeable. What do you think this is doc?

Brief Answer:
Things wil get better ina week or so

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back,

Actually this is a borderline case which doesn't have all features of allergy and it doesn't have all features of vital dermatological disease.

For such cases we reply on biopsy for proper diagnosis,

In your case too it more likely looks like an allergy, because if it were viral, you would have got fever, malaise, body aches, may be a sore throat infection inside mouth and urinary pathways.

Here I also want to mention here that I know it must be really of great concern as it is all over the body but it seems highly treatable, all is needs is a planned treatment, first you will get a biopsy done, and it will be examined ,

if it comes out to be inflammation/allergy you will be given meds for that and within a week you will be all good, if it isn't allergy your meds for infection might be started, here i also want to mention that allergies and viral issue both tend to subside themselves after a flare up so in coming days it is expected to get better.

I would suggest you not to panic and wait for some more days with these meds and ongoing treatment and follow ups, in a week or ten days you are expected to be better and without many symptoms.

Wish you the very best of health.

Stay blessed.

Regards.

Dr.Muhammad Ahmad.
