Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: I was prescribed macrobid 2x daily by my urologist for UTI. After 7 days (taking 1/2 unisom for sleep which is antihistamine as well) Ididn't take unison for 2 days and immediately got hives over legs and some on arms, nausea, cold sweats, achy feet & hands and fatigue. It was the weekdn so could only speak to nurse at my Urolo. and cardiologist. I feel better after stopping Macrobid but still have bad rash on legs. Just took 25 mg. I]unisom. Anything else I can take for rash? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
The antihistamine should be enough

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
since you've almost completed the antibiotic course and the allergic reaction was not that serious (no hypotension, no shortness of breath), I suggest you continue the antihistamine for a couple of days and contact your urologist for further advice. If your UTI is better now, perhaps you can stop treatment for it, but note that receiving treatment for less time than adviced results in relapses.

Contact me again, if you'd require further information.

Kind Regards!
