Suggest Treatment For Headaches, Severe Drowsiness And Fatigue

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: I've been having a headache for two and a half months. In the past two or three weeks, I have also been getting severe drowsiness and fatigue in addition. I went to my doc and he gave me a mono spot test and it was negative, but WBC was a little higher than range with high neutrophils and high lymphocytes and BUN shot up from low end (8) to slightly above range (22) in less than one month. BUN/CREA ratio is much higher than normal (more than 2x). Can you please help me? I'm a teacher, school start in one week and I do not feel up to the demands.

Brief Answer:
Get investigations as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
The fatigue, dizziness and creatinine abnormalities may be due to urinary tract infections or other metabolic cause like diabetes, vitamin deficiency.
Medications for headache can also cause fatigue and dizziness. You should get urine examination done.
Any history of urinary frequency, burning sensation, cough, other medical disease?
You may need antibiotics if any infection is diagnosed.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Do get back to me for further information.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. I am currently not taking any medicines for headaches other than excedrine any longer.

Am I to understand that you believe it is a urinary tract issue that is causing my headaches? I can get a urine examination done if that is the case.

Other medical issues affecting me is that I have a history of bleeding in the GI tract which I'm going to have a colonoscopy this month to diagnose the problem. The other thing is I get occasional itchy areas on my skin that don't appear to be bug bites or allergies.

Right now, my concern is regarding my headaches because they are there when I wake up until the moment I go to sleep. Once work begins, however, my primary concern will be the drowsiness. I usually need 9 hours of sleep but the past week my average has been 13 hours a day.

Please let me know what I should do?

Thanks,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Get investigated for GI bleeding, take treatment as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Urinary infection is not the cause of headaches and is advised to get the reason for increased wbc and increased creatinine.
GI bleeding may be related to increased counts and creatinine. The involvement can be multi system.
Headache may or may not be related to all this.
Possibility of primary stress induced headache is there.
Get evaluated for GI bleeding before getting urinary investigation.
Amitriptyline can be taken for tension type headache.
