Suggest Treatment For Fungal Infection Between Legs

default
Posted on Sat, 24 Jan 2015
Question: I am having a fungal infection between my legs. I have used Clotrimazole ( candid*) but itching did not stopped so then I went to a Dermatologist, he prescribed me a steorid ZYDIP with cream LIVAFIN (Amorolfine ) and terafine tabs plus xyzal tabs for 20 days. For seven days my infection seems reduced but after I stopped applying ZYDIP it started becoming worse now my skin feels like burning and became red scaly and rippled. I really worried what to do :(

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection: Suggestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again and thanks for posting your details.

As I said you have the fungal infection of the thigh area and the infection is quite on higher side.

To guide you simply regarding this condition: Fungal infections are common type of infections which can affect anybody at any site. But more commonly it affects the areas which are more prone for sweating or moist areas (as in your case).

More specifically these are related to the hygiene and environmental factors along with clothes which we wear. As the thigh area is continuously closed so it predisposed to moistness at this area.

Due to hot and humid climate or due to tight and synthetic clothing,it leads to growth of fungus at these part of the body. Additionally persons who scratch at these spots then can get spread to other areas such as on your hand area.

You have been given very good treatment by the treating doctor and it is quite obvious to have burning, red scaly and rippled skin after stop of Zydip lotion. It is basically a steroid lotion and is to be stopped slowly and not abruptly.

In my patients I prefer to apply it daily for 5 days then on alternate days for next 6 days and then twice a week before stopping completely.

I also suggest certain more suggestions as below:

- Keep your self away from hot and humid climate.

- Take two times bath.

- Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments to be changed two times a day. Do not wear any synthetic or tight garments.

- Do cold compression or warm water compresses with towel soaked in water according to the weather condition.

- Do not sit continuously for long hours.

-Don't try to scratch or rub the area as can lead to further aggravation of the problem.

- You can use any good antiperspirant powders daily to avoid future infection.

- Reduce your weight if it is on higher side.

The creams provided are to be applied very thinly so that it should not be visible to the naked eye. I guide my patients to apply a pea size amount of cream to be sufficient for palm size area. Do not rub but gently massage the area.

For burning sensation : I prefer to give the levocetrizine for two times. So if you are taking it for one time then can increase to two times or can replace this tablet with a Des-loratadine tablet.

You can take further guidance from your treating dermatologist.

I hope this information will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem"

Hi
Thank you very much for your help
I am felling relaxed after hearing from you
I have one more thing to ask, Today I had observed that the skin which was red and scaly became dried and started peeling off at some part and I bought Canesten ( Clotrimazole Dusting powder ) for keeping the infected are dry is that OK to use ?? and Livafin amorolfine cream was not available in my near by medical store so I bought Candid ( CLOTRIMAZOLE CREAM IP ) instead, it was prescribed by doctor for first time so using this cream as replacement will be fine or not ?

thank you for your support

Brief Answer:
Do not forget to maintain good hygiene and compression with warm water.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome back and thanks for your follow up.

It is quite usual to find peeling of skin in healing stage. Do not try to rub or pick the skin.It will fall off by itself.

Dusting powder can be used at the places wich are more moist and the rest of the areas which have got better. For the areas of peeling of the skin Clotrimazole cream(candid) can be used.

Do not forget to maintain good hygiene and compression with warm water will help a lot to peel off the dead skin.

I hope this information will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem"
