Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: I'm 67. My blood panel came back with elevated liver enzymes: alk Phosphatase, 493, AST, 102, ALT, 189,
cholestorol: ldl 192, hdl 133,
glucos3, 114.
A1c 6.1
Had much previous education about glucose, so working on diet, exercise. Will now cut out all animal fats.
1. If I quit taking 2 tylonol per day for neck pain, (took for a year---have titanium plate at c-6,7) will liver enzymes go down, and
2. How long do I wait to check liver enzymes again to see if they went down? How long does it take for blood to exchange
3. Don't have gall bladdar pain, but am scheduled for ultrasound, anyway, in two weeks.

Brief Answer:
The liver enzymes will take 6 weeks to come down after the insult goes away

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I would need to ask if you are you are into drinking alcohol. I ask these because it could be possible causes of your elevated liver enzymes or the derangement in lipid levels. Long term intake of tylenol could be another possible cause. However,
* You need to wait at least 6 weeks before you get your blood re-tested. The blood is continuously filtered by the liver and kidneys and the turnover is an ongoing process.
* An ultrasound will show whether your liver is enlarged or shrunken.
* The glucose and HbA1c levels are normal.

Feel free to ask back if you have any further questions.
