Question: my question is about constipation. in my research, i've read that if you don't have a bowel movement in 3 or 4 days, you need to do something. i do have a bowel movement almost every day, but it consists of little balls. even when i have a strong urge to go, it's still little balls. it not hard to pass and doesn't hurt, just not productive. i have tried glycerin suppositories and they don't work. i used one the other night and left in over night cause i hadn't felt an urge to go. the next morning it had melted with no result. my question is, although i go every day, is this constipation? what do i do next?

Brief Answer:
Hard to pass stools are constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,XXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
Painful, hard to pass and infrequent , less than three times per week stools are all termed as constipation.
So I can not call your condition as constipation according to definition.
But because of those balls it can be termed as partial constipation.
It is not a disease in itself but a symptom which is caused by
1.Low intake of water. This differs in every individual, say , if some one having two liters of water every day, he may be passing stools of normal consistency, at almost the same time daily, and other may be finding it hard to do the same with three liters water intake.
2.Low fiber contain in diet.
3.Low diet as in cases with some disease or people with dieting.
4.Some hormonal conditions like Hypothyroidism may cause constipation.
5 Medication, some medicines cause constipation.
It is best to prevent it by removing the basic cause like drinking more water , having diet full of fiber, getting your thyroid check up done.
The treatment include suppositories , laxatives and enemas.
Hope I have answered your question if any more please post it or you can rate the answer and close it.
