Suggest Treatment For Chest Tightness With Breathing Difficulty

Question: We closed the last text with you commenting on frustration. I was a bit but I was actually commenting on how my stress went up because of a number of triggers all at one time.

You also used BLOCK letters to make a statement. I was not disbelieving you but actually i wanted to see it in print once again. I have a musician friend who is a hospital internist dr. We were chatting yesterday and we brought up my PFTs and he mentioned that they are the gold standard to diagnosing lung issues and the more taken, the more reliable of a measure you get. So your Block letters just help reinforce

Last night I think I did good but also bad.
The good part was I worked on the repair to my ceiling I started being a bit on edge worrying about the exertion I would be doing. In fact I did have a bit of chest tightness at the bottom rib area, so I took a shot of albuterol and it lessened quite a bit. I finished cutting and hanging the roof panel then cleaned up the work area.

The bad was I inhaled the room air which had gypsum board dust and animal dander.

Took a shower and went to bed. slept until 3 am, woke, noticed that i was having a limited amount of air intake and tension, At 4 i took a shot of albuterol and one xanax, fell back asleep for another hour. I just want to stay in bed and sleep now.

I am combining the irritants, the stress and the inflammation to the lungs with the breathing problem.

I cant wait to move so I can get away from the inflammatory causes-mediators to get the reduction and lessen the problems.

Here is a question that I thought of during meditation, it has no relation to me.
I will assume a lung with a lobe area not functioning fully, say only 50% inhaling because of air trapping, can still make a PFT show normal lung capacity and FVC by having the other lobe area make up the missing difference, can it?
.

And thanks for birthday wishes

Brief Answer:
Yes, PFT can be normal even if small part of lung is not functioning

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Lung is made up of very small segments.
Few segments combined to form lobe and lobes combined to form lung.
So if small segments fail to perform work, other segments will compensate for their work.
And in that case PFT can be normal.
Can you tell me why you think so?
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Not really sure why I ask, I was wondering in thought of lungs when they work if one area doesnt work can another fill the loss.

You mention segment form lobes, lobes form lungs. I suppose the PFT answer hold true until a certain percent of the failing lobe is affected.

Non functioning part of lung can be seen on CT scan.

Actually I only have a tightness just above the breastbone when I am breathing hard from exertion or am anxious I think. I am symmetrical. This weird sensation began when the anxiety and inflammation began. I have had it for three years. It has not gotten worse. As I said it showed up when I began to get very anxious and I think it has to do with the inflammation. I notice a bit of sighing when it occurs

You are reassuring to my maladies. Thanks for listening

I will do as you suggest but I will only engage in non stress work. Fun work is ok.
I am looking forward to my trip home this weekend. Hoping to find lots of relaxation time so I can unwind.

Because there are only so many times I can text, I will be silent for a few days unless something big comes up.

Thanks for your help with my health. I feel sensations that do not seem right, then I worry, then the worry causes health issues including inflammation. You mentioned that the lungs are hit hard by anxiety and stress mediators so i need to work it all down. again thanks for birthday wishes and for my health well being.
