Question: Hi Doctor,

In my ultrasound scan it was detected i have bulky left ovary with size 4.9x3.7cm with multiple cysts. Few blood hemorrages are also found. Now i am advised to use Contraceptive pills everyday for 3 cycles. This will stop me from conceiving. Is this really to worry ? Since my Right ovary is normal should i wait or start with the medication?

Doctor,

I don't have the scan copy with me now, as i am out of city. I also had to mention we are planning for a family. I have my periods regularly(27 days cycle). Till now i haven't seen symptoms like gaining weight, hair on body, irregular periods.

The scan report said: Right ovary is normal. Bulky left ovary measuring 4.9x3.7 cm with muliple cycts. Few cysts with blood hemorrage are found.

Uterus, endometrium all are normal.

Brief Answer:
CONTRACEPTIVE PILL DOES'NT LET YOU PREGNANT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

If your period is REGULAR, then you can follow these suggestion for successful conception :

1) Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease is associated with irregular delayed period and improper ovulation with other clinical symptoms. Therefore, I suggest you to take progesterone pill (like DUPHASTON) from D16 to D25 in each cycle. It will be more effective.

As you are trying to conceive, then contraceptive pill will NOT be effective to get pregnant.

2) You need to undergo serial follicular study (D12 to D16) to monitor ovulation or you can use Ovulation Prediction Kit (or LH kit) to track down your ovulation time in the middle of each cycle. It is available in the medical store.

3) You have to do REGULAR unprotected sex close to your ovulation day (14 days prior to next due date) or (11th to 19th days of each regular 28 to 30 days cycle) to maximize the chance of pregnancy. You have to try 6 to 12 months before undergoing next level of investigations.

4) Both of you must take a healthy balanced diet with more fresh fruits and vegetables. LOW carbohydrate diet is preferable. Take vitamin-E and folic acid supplements for 3 months in preconception period and there after.

5) You should do light exercise to control body weight. You must avoid mental stress by regular meditation/ yoga. Maintain a healthy life style.

Hope, above information is quite helpful to you. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Regards,
Dr Soumen
