Suggest Treatment For Autoimmune Vitiligo And Ridges On Nails

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: Hello,
I have autoimmune vitiligo, ridges appeared on nails, some premature grey hairs, restless leg - have times where want to move legs.
So I did a blood test. A few things were out, does blood test point towards anything here?
http://www.imagesup.net/?di=0000 - blood test results.
Also, anything else I should test? My cortisol was out on another test, testosterone a bit low but normal, DHEAs were higher.
Trying to find out if something is wrong like a nutrition or something.

Thanks, I've attached. The MCV is one thing that seems not right? Not sure.

Brief Answer:
Additional ANA screen will be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

I have gone through all your reports.

All seem to be okay except MCV.

Elevated MCV can significantly point to underlying Vitamin B12 of Folic acid deficiency.

Hence I recommend you to get tested for Serum B12 levels.

Along with this i also suggest additional tests in the form of complete ANA screen to detect any coexistent autoimmune disorders with autoimmune vitiligo.

Post your further queries, if any.
Thank you.

I had an active b12 test which came back as 73 pmol/l range is 25 to 165..

Im currently taking anibiotic for acne.

The supplement b complex im having i've now been taking for around a month.

Could it be folic acid im deficent in?

I also enjoy beer two days a week, quite a lot.

Brief Answer:
Get blood folic acid and thiamine levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

I understand your concern.

Your B12 levels are quite normal.

Certainly you need to get tested for folic acid and thiamine deficiency as well.

Since both are quite prevalent in the population in general.

Also beer consumption can contribute to such deficiencies.

Thank you

Thanks for your reply. So you would be concerned with my MCV as a doctor?
I will show it to my dermatologist too as I see him soon.

Do you recommend I take a 'high dose' vitamin b complex supplement? I am taking a b complex but there are stronger ones from where I buy also the stronger ones include something called PABA?

How long would it approx take for the b to rise to normal level?
How long would it take for the grey hair to reverse to normal and the nails to look healthy and lunulas to reappear?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
High dose superior vitamins are helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

I understand your concern.

Yes certainly a high dose multivitamin coupled with Zinc fortification(approx 60 mg /dose) is very essential.

Discuss the same with your dOCTOR

Additional PABA is also very effective.

The both MCV should settle in 12 weeks.

The nail and hair changes take longer time of 6-8 months for restoration of nail anatomy.

Thank you.
