Question: Can you treat an anal fissure or an internal hemroid at home, and if so how?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Kerry Pottinger (29 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Fluids, laxatives and pain relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic.
Treating these two conditions mostly involves treating the symptoms. An anal fissure is likely to heal in a few days but certain measures can be taken to ease the pain and improve comfort.
Avoid constipation by ensuring good hydration. Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. Eat plenty of high fibre foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, brown rice, wholegrain bread and oats. A bulk-forming laxative will help with softening the stool. Topical local anesthetic gels containing lidocaine will ease the pain. Paracetamol and ibuprofen will also help with pain relief.
If these measures do not help, you should see your doctor to discuss surgical options.
I hope this is of help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you, when I go to the doctors is there anything that they can do to stop the pain and relieve me immediately?

Answered by Dr. Kerry Pottinger (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Local anesthetic gel

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Applying local anesthetic gel will be the best way to help the pain immediately. There are surgical options but these are usually considered after conservative treatment has been used for a few weeks to allow natural healing of a fissure.
Banding or injections are surgical option for hemorrhoids.
I hope this answers your question.

Brief Answer:
Local anesthetic containing gel.

Hi,
Yes. It will be gel containing local anesthetic and is commonly used for anal fissures and hemorrhoids. It is an over the counter preparation and your pharmacist will be able to advise.
