Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain, Bloating And Mild Diarrhea

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Apr 2017
Question: I started experiencing burning pain in the upper abdomen, abdominal bloating, belching, and mild diarrhea on Sunday. I was away in Puerto Rico and the night before, I had consumed a fairly high quantity of cranberry (which I also take as a supplement to prevent urinary infection) and had been drinking alcohol. I began taking Zantac Sunday evening, and although I feel better, still have discomfort in the upper abdomen, belching, and occasional diarrhea. I also have mild GERD, which has been manageable with supplements. I am a woman in my late 50's and am very concerned, as I have never had an attack like this before. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!I also experienced lack of appetite, which has improved slightly. Thanks! YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Possible food poisoning

Detailed Answer:
Hello ! Thank you for using HealthCareMagic.
I have gone through your question and I understand.

Burning pain in uper abdominal shows of GERD (acid reflux) cause alcohol aggravate GERD.
The diarrhea could be a sign of food poisoning ( consuming not hygienic food ).
I would advice to:
- Take planty of water ( liquids ) to stay hydrated and take some ORS (oral rehydration ) to substitue the electrolytes you lost with diarrhea.

-Take Care of GERD --Don't consume alcohol, no coffe, no fried or spicey food , eat small meals /portions several time , eat at least 2 hours before you go to bad.

-If you don't have temperature, blood in stools (shows a bacterial infection) use Loperamide (Imodium ) 2mg after each stools ( not more than 16mg /day).Will help to stop diarrhea and pain.

Don't take Ranitidine while you use Loperamide due to possible interaction.
If your symptons don't go away for the next days or if you start to have blood in stools fever ,need to go to local doctor for further evaluation .

Hope i have answered your question.
Let me know if you have any further clarifications, I will be happy to help.

Wish you good health .
