Suggest Treatment For A Tooth Abscess While On Ibuprofen And Amoxicillin

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jun 2016
Question: I have had a tooth abscess this week and was given tylenol 3 to take interchangeably with ibuprofen. I am also on amoxicillin. This is day 4 of the abscess and I went in today to a root canal retreatment. They cleared out the space in the canal but could not get to the abscess which is up in the bone. I woke up tonight at 2:30 with my heart racing so I got up and now my whole body is shaking.

Brief Answer:
Seems like side effects of medication..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I am so sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to solve it to the best of my knowledge and experience..

As per the symptoms of racing heart or palpitations and shaking can be most probably due to side effects of the medications that is amoxicillin and painkillers Ibuprofen and Tylenol that you are taking to reduce pain and infection..

The symptoms may however resolve once the medicine intake is stopped..

I would like to know a few more details so that I can guide you better..

1. Are you running fever also along with these symptoms?
2.Is there swelling over the face in the area of root canal treated tooth?
3. Did the symptoms improve or are still the same?
4.Are you also experiencing any stomach upset, nausea or breathlessness?

Please revert back with answers..

Regards.

I'm sorry I am just now seeing your answer. Thanks you for your reply. My abscess is still there although small and not painful anymore. I am still on amoxicillin. I go back to my endodontist tomorrow to possibly fill the canal in the one root pathway. Depending if the abscess is gone. I had another panic/anxiety episode on Saturday. Very short of breath, shaking, feeling faint. How do you determine if it's anxiety or a heart attack? I went through the day but was so worried that on Saturday evening i went to the ER. They did an EKG and it looked okay the Dr said and I had blood work which was "pristine" he said. My potassium levels were just below the normal range at 3.4 I think? Let me know what you think. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Can be probably Panic attack ..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome again..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms are probably due to Panic attack while a pretty good chance of having a side effect of antibiotic..

Aa your EKG is alright and potassium levels slightly below it does not seems to be the cause..

But for a proper confirmation you should consult a Medicine Specialist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Thank you for your feedback. I did visit my family Physician Friday afternoon after I had my first "panic attack" early Friday morning. She calculated a good blood pressure for me on Friday and said I need to talk myself of these episodes. When I had another scary one on Saturday and took myself to the ER Saturday night I got the same info from the ER Physician there too (from blood work and EKG). Are you suggesting a clinical Psychologist for evaluation? I just wanted to clarify what you meant. Thank you.
Also, I've never been aware that antibiotics can cause that type of reaction (anxiety/stress)? Is that the case sometimes with amoxicillin? Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
No need to visit a Psychologist now..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Back..

As per your query, antibiotic side effect can cause anxiety and in case if your blood workup and EKG are normal you need not to worry about anything now..

Simply take a nutritious diet, do moderate workout, involve in the activities of your choice and do meditation and breathing exercises..

Spend time with family and friends and avoid being along or thinking negative..

You are perfectly fine..

Get your root canal treatment completed and if infection has considerably subsided the antibiotic intake will be stopped..

You do not need to go to Psychological evaluation and my advise to go to medicine specialist was just to evaluate side effects of medication and not Psychological evaluation..

So do not worry as everything seems alright..

Take care..
