Brief Answer:
Likely upper respiratory infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Throat pain without cold or flu symptoms is likely due to inflammation of throat which in turn is because of upper respiratory infection (pharyngitis, laryngitis, epiglotitis).

Majority of cases throat pain are due to viral infection, but in some cases it is related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis).

You are likely to be having viral throat infection because of which you are suffering from pain.

Let me know some more information about you

1) Do you have painful swallowing or feel pain while swallowing liquid or solid?
2) Since how many days you are feeling throat pain?
3) Do you have coughing?

However, you should take symptomatic treatment since you do not have fever or cold symptoms.

1) Analgesics (pain killers) with anti-inflammatory combination (like combiflam tablets) which are available over the counter

2) Antihistamines like levocetrizine 10 mg or benadryl if you have a dry cough.

3) Steam inhalation will also be helpful with warm salt water gargles which will for symptomatic relief.

4) Antibiotics will not require here unless you develop fever or cold symptoms later on.

Hope this will help you and get back to me with more information as I asked.

Thanks and Regards,

Brief Answer:
Symptomatic treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for sharing more information.

Your throat pain is likely due to inflammation in throat which could be a viral infection.

I suggest tab.combiflam (paracetamol and ibuprofen combination) twice or thrice daily (but not more than 4 tablets in a day) with tab.pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily with meal to avoid gastric trouble related to NSAIDs pain killers.

Take anti-histamines (levocetrizine 10) on SOS basis if you feel mild cough or throat irritation.

Warm salt water gargles with steam inhalation frequently in a day will also be helpful for symptomatic relief especially in winter seasons.

Avoid cold water and cold products since doing so, may cause further inflammation in throat.

Hope this will help you.Feel free to ask if you have more queries.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
