Questions and answers on "Upper respiratory infection"

I've had an upper respiratory infection for a few weeks I thought I was over it and then this morning I woke up my lymph nodes are swollen my throat sore and I have red streaks of the back to that when you look in my throat do I assume it's viral or do I go to the doctor

If you are having sore throat & swollen lymph nodes and no significant throat pain or headache, then it is most likely to be viral. But if the symptoms persist even after 72 hours, then you have to go to a GP first & then if needed an ENT Specialist.

I have been fighting what I assumed was an upper respiratory infection for about 6 days now. About 2 days ago white and red spots started appearing on my tonsils, and today there was an outbreak of red spots on the roof of my mouth. Do I need to see a doctor in my area for a strep test?

doctor1 MD

Hello I have a 14 months old son that I took into the DR earlier today and he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, I took him in because he was really fussy and his temp was at 101.4 well after getting home his temp was 102.8 and got as high as 103.5 before he took a nap now after his nap it was as high as 104.4 gave him some ibuprofen since it was 6 hrs since I last did, it has gone down to 102.9 since I gave the ibuprofen but still hasn't been below 100 today. Is this normal with a upper respiratory infection? He has also thrown up.

hi im a 27 yr old female and i caught something about 6 days ago. My symptoms are: coughing, swallowing a lot, fatigue, very sore, salty, scratchy and burning throat, the other day i had cold chills...haven t had fever at all though. all my muscles were sore, especially in the shoulder, neck and base of skull area. i had difficulty turning my head and one time my jaws felt really sore when opening my mouth. i also had headaches and my ears would block on and off throughout the days and my skin felt bruised everywhere when touched. These symptoms feel worse when going to bed and when i wake from bed. I would just like to know if this is something you think i should take more seriously. Nothing worse than having to wait hours at a clinic, only to be sent home with nothing.. thank you!

54 yrs old. type 2 diabetic (insulin). fibromyalgia. went to walk in 10 days ago. Doctor felt I had strep throat. Told him it was too painful to be strep. Two days later I was at emergency. Every swallow was excruciating. NO fever . Was put on IV antibiotics...steriods etc. After three rounds of treatment, I can swallow with just discomfort. It is not going away though. Still causing my ear and teeth to hurt. Cat scan done and no lumps of pus found. Should I continue to seek treatment or should I give it more time. Really scared it might return to the way it was.
